QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

ALMOST PERFECT: JUSTIN FIELDS BEGINS 2020 HEISMAN TROPHY CAMPAIGN WITH STANDOUT PERFORMANCE IN SEASON-OPENING WIN

117486_h.jpg

Justin Fields threw 21 passes. He completed 20 of them.

Justin Fields scored three touchdowns – two through the air and one on the ground – without turning it over at all.

Justin Fields attempted a quarterback sneak twice. He converted first downs with ease both times.

Justin Fields ran the ball 12 times – not accounting for three sacks – and picked up a team-high 75 sack-adjusted yards.

Just about everything Ohio State’s star quarterback did on the field went his team’s way while rolling over Nebraska for a 52-17 victory.

“I thought Justin played well,” Day said afterward. “He didn't force anything. Did a good job with his feet. Was accurate. I think the only incompletion he had, someone told me, was just on the post to Chris (Olave). We did have a couple sacks in there that maybe we can throw the ball away. But the good news overall is we have something to work on.”

That was the most accurate performance I have seen from an Ohio State QB. Yeah, guys were getting open. But the ball was on the numbers every time. He legit should have been 22/22, which is insane. He is still taking too long on some plays to make a decision but damn Justin Fields is in for a season.

- P.S. - I am sooooo fucking happy to see Justin Fields run and throw the ball around after all he has been through. I don't care if we lost (well, I would) but this season to me after all we have gone through is seeing Justin just ball out and play his game. In a year where I thought football might not happen, to see JF play like that after he was a critical part in Big Ten football happening...there are no words. Beyond proud of Mr. Fields beyond the results of this game and damn proud he is our QB. We all thought no season would happen, meanwhile Justin fought tooth and nail to play. That adds about a thousand percent to my fan tank when JF does anything well.

It was awfully kind of you to use the word "slightly" (I was awfully drunk). It was a drunken stream of consciousness, but I stand by it. Justin Fields stood his ground and fought for a season that would never happen without him. Judt unreal that he is playing for the real deal.

Sad thing is his 1 incompletion was essentially a drop not the bad throw which ended up being a PI

Disagree. Fields played a great game overall, but he was really late on that wide open TD pass. Lofted a high pass too late and it resulted in a dangerous hit with Olave's legs getting taken out from under him while jumping for the pass.

Just sayin'; OK, it probably wasn't a perfectly thrown ball. But I'll bet Olave would be the first one to say "I got 2 hands on it, I should have had it". Great receivers have confidence in their ability, and that's what they actually believe and say. Which is one of the reasons (in addition to his athletic ability) he's considered a great receiver and will eventually be a high NFL draft pick.

STOCK UP/DOWN: OHIO STATE'S RECEIVER DUO, QUARTERBACK SNEAKS WORKING, TWO-HEADED RUNNING BACK ROTATION

STOCK UP

JUSTIN FIELDS

We already knew Ohio State had a star quarterback. We knew he could contend for the Heisman Trophy and end the season as a top-five overall 2021 NFL Draft prospect.

Yet somehow, even with those high expectations, Fields still managed to impress and open eyes. He appears to be even better than he was last year, when he had 41 touchdowns passes compared to three interceptions and ran for 10 more scores.

Fields completed 20-of-21 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns. His only incompletion fell to the ground when Olave leaped for an on-target deep ball, caught it, but then got his feet taken out mid-air and lost control when sent back to Earth. Fields added 54 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground on 15 rushes.

Cherish this season, Ohio State fans. Quarterbacks like Fields don’t come around every year.

SKULL SESSION: OHIO STATE IS SOON-TO-BE QBU, JUSTIN FIELDS IS ON A MISSION, AND SEAN CLIFFORD HAS SOME CONFIDENCE

MAN ON A MISSION.
Justin Fields didn't have to play another down of college football to lock up his status as a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft, but that he's back because ain't what this season is about.

He's on a mission to complete some unfinished business and set the record straight.

"The man is returning, like going back in time to get the infinity stones so he's got one more shot at this thing like in End Game."

"Justin Fields is playing college football expressly to finish what he started – the job is not done."

Damn, is it game day yet?
