Rookies Justin Fields, Kyle Pitts Plan On Saving Their NFL Paychecks
  • Their NFL salaries will be invested as both plan to live off endorsement money.
Justin Fields and Kyle Pitts are part of the first rookie class to be paid under the NFL’s new league-wide paycheck schedule, which disperses salaries over 36 weeks instead of 17.

The guiding rationale here was to allow players to better budget their salaries, although Fields and Pitts told Front Office Sports they have a plan for their paychecks that renders the point moot.

“My plan right now is to not really touch any of my contract money and just pretty much live off of the marketing money,” Fields said.

Fields cautioned current college athletes to seriously consider their branding deals.

“They’re hungry to get to the money, but I think they can definitely get taken advantage of with different brands. It’s important for them to know their worth,” Fields said.

Just sayin": Good advice, I believe Joe Burrow is doing the same thing.

"I think I'm very happy with my progress. I think my goal is to just improve every day," Fields said. "Me and coach Nagy talked about it and it's just literally getting better every day. As long as I feel like I'm doing that then I'm happy with my progress. I'm just gonna keep working and keep trying to do that."

"I'm still scarred from that Clemson hit. Literally every time I tuck the ball down and run I'm thinking about getting out of bounds or getting down," Fields said. "I'm definitely smarter and trying to protect myself more. I was just thinking about baseball actually when I was sliding. You do that a lot in baseball, it's definitely easy for me."

"Literally I’m just trying to stay positive and just take it day by day and get better," Fields said. "Andy’s been in this league for what 10 years now, so I mean he knows the playbook like this and that. He’s smart. So he’s teaching me a lot. I’m just going to take everything I can and learn from him and Nick. They’ve both in this league 10-11 years so just having those two guys in the room with me, I definitely don’t take it for granted so I’m just going to be a sponge and kind of soak everything in and just learn everything that they tell me.”
