Niners didn't trade up to #3 to take Mac bleepin' Jones. They could get him at #12.

The only way Fields isn't a 49er is if the Jets, or someone who trades up to #2, take him.

By no means expert, but IMO Mac Jones floats the ball... He could get away with that with his blazing receivers who would be wide open...
but NFL will destroy that... I think that's why he missed so many throws in his Pro Day cuz he floats it and receiver runs under it
I don't see Jones with zip
    Fields can zip

NFL you have to get away from fast linemen and LBs and blitzes
    Mac Jones is not athletic
    Fields is athletic

I don't get it.. why anyone would consider Jones > Fields
unless your intent is... to create 'concern' about Fields so you can grab him later
and laugh your ass off that it worked

Idiots questioning Justin’s work ethic just because of Haskins. These two are opposite ends of the spectrum. Aggravates me..Go Justin.

What I’m reading on the issue is Fields tendency to lock on to his primary receiver and not go through his progressions. Holding the ball waiting for his primary guy to come open. This is based on their watching of game film.

I don’t think these are bad or invalid observations. A lot of that was commented on during game threads.

Justin certainly has the ‘it’ factor. The guy is a winner. I have no doubt he will be a great long term pro QB. SF would be perfect for him.

Being a Niners fan, being in a position to draft Fields is a dream scenario. But, I'm an extremely jaded pro sports fan, so I'm bracing myself for them to take Mac friggin' Jones. I will weep.

I can't believe Mac Jones is even a consideration for the first round. This whole thing is stupid.
  7. ScriptOhio

ScriptOhio Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.

How did Mac Jones do on Pro Day? Depends on who is reporting it....

Just sayin': Devonta Smith's hands, leaping ability, and uncanny ability to change speed/direction to catch the ball in stride might make any QB (with a reasonable arm) look like a #1 pick.

Mac Jones' Disappointing Pro Day Shows He's Not in Same Tier as Draft's Top QBs

What they saw in Tuscaloosa should give them serious pause about investing in Jones as the future of the franchise. Because while the 6'2½", 217-pounder is a promising prospect who had a fantastic collegiate career, he's not on the same level as BYU's Zach Wilson. Or Fields. Or even Lance.
In fairness, one shaky outing at a pro day does not a draft evaluation make (or break). It may be that Jones read the same articles that the rest of us did and got a bit overanxious. Or that he's just tired of the predraft hoop-jumping. But by most objective measures, Tuesday's effort was iffy at best. He misfired on multiple throws, including at least one that drew a less than impressed countenance from Shanahan.

Jones' struggles Tuesday were amplified by what was happening 626 miles to the northwest. While Jones was sailing passes over receivers' heads, Fields was in Columbus peeling off a 4.44-second 40-yard dash and throwing lasers all over the field, including one that drew gasps from those in attendance.

It's worth noting that his feet weren't set on that bomb either.

That throw by fields is just filthy. That throw by Mac Jones is gross.

I mean i saw something like 70% of the time he didn’t come off his first receiver... given he was upper 60s near 70% completion % ... why would you move to another read.... again... I will state again

Which is why SF is ideal for him. Sit him behind Jimmy for a year, let Shanny iron out the kinks and unleash him in 2022.

I still cannot remember seeing Jones throw a laser.. everything has loft... that's not gonna cut it in the NFL. Kid is cerebral but not athletic...

Which goes to show you how poor our DBs were playing or how brilliant Alabama's preperation or game plan was. Probably a little of all 3 considering their "analyst" coaches they had.

Jones got rid of the ball quick but as you point out he doesn't really have a huge arm.

I think the 49ers draft whomever the Jets don't take at 2.

IMO- Fields played against better competition at Ohio State, than Wilson did at BYU. Granted, COVID fucked up BYU's schedule.
