QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

“My path to The Ohio State University was not a direct one, but I could not have asked for a better final destination,” Fields said in a statement Monday. “Growing up, my dream was to one day play the game that I love at the highest level. Now thanks to God’s grace and mercy, along with the help of you all, I am in the position to turn that dream into reality.”

Thanks so much for being a part of the Buckeye family Justin! These last 2yrs have taken us and kept us among the CFB elite. Fields will always be remembered in Buckeye lore, he deserves his 1st round pick and the money that goes with it. Tear it up in the pros!!!

After everything, it wasn't the sky-high talent that impressed me the most, it was the insane ability to look like he blew out his knee or broke 3 ribs and come back a play latter to throw a TD. Never gave in.

He deserved a much better sendoff than last Monday, but the Clemson game will live on forever as a glorious NYE win and one of the best performances in OSU history.

Forever grateful to Kirby Smart for picking Fromm over Fields. Loved watching this kid play. The talent was obvious, the toughness was even more impressive.

My lasting memory of Justin Fields will be the Sugar Bowl rout of Clemson, for a multitude of reasons. Best of luck, young man.

ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay both said earlier this month that Fields should stay at Ohio State and compete for another season. He would potentially be the first quarterback taken in 2022 if that was the case.

"I think going back to Ohio State for another year, as opposed to coming into the National Football League without the momentum from having a great season like he did two years ago, (he can) right things," Kiper Jr. said on ESPN's draft podcast. "He can work on things fundamentally. Ohio State’s got a ton of talent coming in every year. They’re always reloading, they’re not rebuilding there. Ryan Day will have plenty of talent. I think it’s worth a minute or two discussion as to whether Justin Fields would be better off going back to Ohio State for the 2021 season."

McShay says Fields has areas to work on before jumping to the next level.

"You want to have success in the league. I think Mel’s right," McShay said. "You don’t think (a return to college) is going to happen but I think Mel is exactly right. … He’s not there yet. If you study film and you know what you’re talking about and you know how to identify what quarterbacks are looking for and you know defensive coverages and you know how to get off your primary to secondary to third target, you can see that he’s not there yet. "Ryan Day is so good at protecting him and putting him in good spots that it doesn’t show up a whole lot."

Just sayin': Interesting comments from ESPN's talking heads. He's going to go in the top 5 of the draft. The money is there this year, it would be a gamble if he came back. Besides 4 or 5 years down the road (after his rookie contract) in the NFL will anyone really care if he is the 1st pick; or 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th pick in the draft?

Are these the same two hacks that before the season said the competition for top pick/QB was between him and barbie?

I'm not overly concerned with what Kiper has to say about quarterbacks at this point...

“If Jimmy Clausen is not a successful quarterback in the NFL, I’m done. That’s it. I’m out.”

Replied McShay: “What is your time frame, Mel? When do we make that assessment?”

Kiper: “I want eight years.”

McShay: “It will only take three years, Mel. We can tell inside three years.”

Kiper: “I want eight.”
