QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Alright, JF is the man. That was a great game... but he went to another level for me. He hands off to Sermon and easy TD run. Justin wasn't having it, he was 10 yards behind everyone, yet somehow runs down the field and just wipes out the MSU guy like it was some sort of afterthought. I'm not sure we'll ever see such a badass play from our QB. Not only did Justin Fields fight to have a season for the B1G, but he's backing everything up on the field. Justin Fields deserves his own damn chapter in Ohio State history.

Only thing I can recall would be:

September 11, 1999, Steve Bellisari was platooning with Austin Moherman at QB. Having dropped the opener to Miami, the Buckeyes hosted #14 UCLA.

Steve may have earned the job for the rest of his career with that block. I remember shouting something like FUCK YEA! at the TV when I saw him lay that DE out. Buckeyes won that game 42-20, but ended a disappointing 6-6. On the other hand, that 6-6, along with Reggie Germany's GPA ushered in the age in which we now find ourselves.

Watching Fields play against Sparty was like witnessing a super hero discover his powers. It was thrilling! To know what he can do, to take over a game when things break down, that is the thing of legends. Of Heisman trophy winners. A healthy Fields in the playoffs will be fun to watch. Very scary for anyone we get matched up against.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN. As if Justin Fields wasn't already a legend in Columbus, he's out here giving us quotes like this.

He's definitely had better stat-lines than he had this week, even against better teams, but I don't think you could possibly give him enough credit for how awesome he was in a game where his head coach/playcaller and position coach weren't even in the stadium and he was playing behind 3/5ths of a completely new and inexperienced offensive line, including a new center (who made him chase snaps the entire first quarter).

He just went ahead and did this.

And this.

And he was even making plays he didn't have to make.

That perfectly sums up my thoughts on his performance. Rewatching him run down the Sparty defender, I now believe he really does run a 4.3 as rumored, he probably would have beat Sermon to the goal line if he wanted to. The first time I watched it live I was surprised to see someone come in for that block and thought it was a WR. Nope, it was Justin Fields running down the field being about 10-15 yards behind to start. DK Metcalf running down that defender has some real competition now.
