QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

On a 1 yr rental. Steelers can chose to engage yr 5 of the contract but that has a $25M tab to it

So highly likely he's free agent after this season

Tough spot to be in.. how do you create market value, at best sharing QB duties?

I hope Justin plays well enough in Pittsburgh that he gets to go play somewhere else. Best of luck, Justin, but god damnit man the Steelers ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh
That was my immediate reaction...way better spot than Chicago for him (or any QB for that matter), but fuck the Steelers. There is not a universe where I wouldn't want JF to be successful, I just wish that would be with a different team.

There also the chance they decline the deal but negotiate an extension somewhere in the middle. That allows for it be team friendly but includes escalators if he's the teams starting QB and killing it.

Unfortunately, there is a small, but vocal, minority here who still engage in Buckeye alumni player bashing.
The absolute disgust for Kirk Herbstreit and his comments and false allegations during Tattoogate is much more widely held than you would suggest. We do not bash Buckeye alumni. Fake buckeyes are another thing.

Naw, a Buckeye is a Buckeye for life, even those that avail themselves of the now popular transfer portal. We always wish those that depart well, even if we don't follow as often. Am happy for Justin, he was wasting his body for a team that didn't deserve him, much less use him properly. Will be curious how the Pittsburg situation plays out, but listening to the trades going on around the league, believe Pittsburg got a tremendous deal. I wonder if he thought (as he was running the ball), do I really want to crash into the LB coming at me, or step out of bounds, for a team that publicly disowns me....just hypothicating here.

Sources: Steelers not expected to pick up Justin Fields option

The Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to pick up quarterback Justin Fields' $25 million fifth-year option, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

A first-round draft pick in 2021, Fields was traded to the Steelers by the Chicago Bears last month for a conditional sixth-round pick.

By not picking up Fields' fifth-year option, the Steelers have a quarterback room where their top two players are playing out the final year of their contracts. Prior to trading for Fields, the Steelers signed Russell Wilson to a one-year deal for the league minimum.

Justin Fields says he is 'definitely competing' with Russell Wilson to be Steelers' starting quarterback

Fields has no plans to be a backup

Russell Wilson may have the "pole position," but Justin Fields is going to do whatever he can to try to earn the job as the Steelers' new starting quarterback.

Fields made that clear following the first day of Pittsburgh's OTAs when he was asked about his expected role within the Steelers offense in 2024. Wilson has been penciled in as the Steelers' projected starting quarterback since Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that the nine-time Pro Bowl selection has the edge over Fields, a former first-round pick who was acquired this offseason via a trade with Chicago.

"I'm definitely competing," Fields said, via The Athletic. "Russ knows that. We're competing against each other every day. ... I definitely don't have the mindset of me sitting all year. I'm coming in every day, giving it all I've got. Pushing him to be his best and he's pushing me to be my best every day."

Just sayin': After starting 38 games for the Bears, is sounds like Justin is not going to be very happy if he ends up as QB2 for the Steelers.
