QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

I don't think we should try to extrapolate anything from the lack of helpful information we got last season. They were each put in to hand off and run the ball and they each did that. You wouldn't alternate for handoffs in the late season games and you obviously have to pick one to do it. That was Stroud and he could well take the job, but to base that on what we saw strikes me as a correlation/causation problem. Day will let this play out through the spring and possibly the early fall schedule. Playing MN and OR to start the season makes that a little problematic, but if you've got two (now three) QBs who are practicing/scrimmaging well and there hasn't been clear separation, that's what you do.

When CJ went in against Clemson, they didn’t know how long he would be in. I agree that we shouldn’t extrapolate much from the weird season, but there are a few tells.

The scuttlebutt was that Stroud distanced himself from Miller in the competition about mid season, but not by an enormous amount. I think CJ is the front runner to be sure, but this spring and summer is going to be the definition of an open competition, and that includes McCord, who is crazy talented and I think will legit push for the job.
