QB CJ Stroud (All B1G, 2022 B1G QB of the Year, All-American, NFL OROY, Houston Texans)

It was not Tom Tupa's fault that he was the best option the Buckeyes had at quarterback at that time. Earle was fired because his roster was full of guys who would not even have earned offers from Ohio State under a competent regime, and the development, especially on the LOS, was lacking as well.

Tom Tupa was a sub-standard quarterback, but he wore the S&G and played the position he was suited to at an All-American level. But because Earle was unable to recruit a better qb, Tom was booed upon his introduction at Senior Day. Without a doubt the most shameful thing I've ever seen Ohio State fans do.

Stroud, on the other hand, started out as a highly rated QB and has worked hard enough to chase higher rated QBs back to Texas with their tail between their legs. No such problems with QB recruiting or development under Ryan Day.

Damn, that doesn't even wear out the new car smell...

not a bad choice by the dealer

you want a brand new car, or a car with a thousand miles that was driven by CJ stroud?

In Columbus, they can sell those cars for at least close to the price of brand new, and they still get the advertising value of the deal

not a bad choice at all

Good call. Not that I could afford to drive a car like that, but I wouldn't mind paying "new" price for a 45-day-old car that was driven by CJ Stroud.
Reminds me a little of the Seinfeld episode when George bought the car previously owned by John Voight (not by Jon Voight - ha).

edit - I must have been distracted when I posted. I edited for clarity.

I own a car that was once owned by Vanessa Hudgens (yes, I can demonstrate provenance that is the real Vanessa Hudgens -- B7 S4 black on black cab if you want to go hunting for it). I'd like to think that I'll be able to turn that around for a marginal premium as a result. I doubt I will be able to, but it's a fun fact about the car nonetheless.

And rather than a pencil that was chewed by John Voight, I have a Universal Studios parking pass. :slappy:

I'm not ragging on Tupa. My point was that getting Cris Carter back would not have made much of a difference due to the fact that Tupa was--as you say--a sub-standard QB. And yes, that team was full of holes. The OL had taken a nose dive over the previous couple of years, and Earl NEVER put much stock in developing a top tier DL right as that facet of the game was beginning to become more and more vital. A lot of reasons why Carter would not have made a difference.

Just a couple of thoughts.....these 'cars' are on leases to avoid someone (Ewers) from taking said vehicle and bolting for green pastures. Pass on the title and it's truly theirs. BigBucks was correct. He was always going to be a backup QB, and was given a schollie because of his punting skills. Haven't been too many others better to have worn the scarlet & gray. Other than that, truly thought Earle was a D coach, so what's up with him saying the DL wasn't important? Seem to recollect that he came right after Woody (and so destined NOT to be as good), and still in tOSU mindset that put a fence around Ahia, so not to let any other school in - which worked, but actually kept the coaches inside as well. Looking forward, tOSU is doing well, but not great at DL recruiting this year and next. Dunno whether this is fallout from Coach J's age/retirement/not as active? Still hear/see such good things when he gets the kids on the field, passing out his 'bon mots' of information. We'll see how the new coachs (CB, S, OL) do on the trail, but believe will do better, as tOSU new D gets us to the championship game (and a victory). Proof is in the pudding. Go Bucks!
