Four-star D.J. Carton recaps recent visits

Ohio State: “I plan to visit them soon. I’m looking forward to seeing everything there and meeting the coaches and the team. They are having a really good year. They grew in a lot of ways. I feel like Coach (Chris) Holtmann is doing a great job so far.”

RIVALS' REACTION

With his season now over, Carton will start to move forward with taking more visits to schools he hasn’t seen enough of yet. He mentioned Iowa State and Ohio State as two schools he will likely visit and there will likely be others as well.

He’ll play out his final travel season with Quad City Elite and then hopes knock out a decision at some point before the early signing period in November. Right now, Iowa is probably the school he’s most familiar with, but that won’t stop other schools from trying to pry him away from the Hawkeyes.

like where we stand here. just a gut feeling, but i feel like we're going to look really good to carton after he visits. he seems intrigued by indiana, but the hoosier point guard position projects to be full going into 2019. though langford is a shooting guard and may be one-and-done, a commitment to indiana may result in carton wanting to go elsewhere. as far as probable point guard playing time for 2019 goes, indiana -- like pretty much everyone else -- has nothing on ohio state.

with Garland and Shittu committed to Vanderbilt I thought there was a possibility that Langford might be headed there also

perhaps nothing here, but...

Looking for upsets in your bracket? Prospects give us their longshots
We're just hours away from the best three weeks on the college basketball calendar and predictions from various sites and writers are plastered all over the internet. Instead of giving our own personal views about what might transpire, we reached out to the future of the game and asked them which team they might pull off an upset during the opening rounds.

seventeen players polled. a handful of osu recruits. a couple players picked an sdsu upset over osu. one recruit picked osu to beat sdsu, gonzaga, and even xavier:

DJ Carton

“I have Ohio State beating Xavier because of their tempo and how deadly they can be if they are knocking down their shots.”

again, i think we're going to look really good to carton after he visits.

Twitter Tuesday: Villanova, James Akinjo, Virginia, Ohio State

Ohio State is in a good spot with a few of the top 2019 prospects in the Midwest. While far from a done deal, I could definitely see the Buckeyes signing a class a year from now that includes D.J. Carton and Alonzo Gaffney
.
Carton, one of the top point guard prospects in the 2019 class, is in the early stages of his recruitment. Kudos to Ohio State for getting involved early and getting the Iowa native onto campus already. Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Creighton and Michigan are just a few of the other programs in hot pursuit.

First eval period: Top performers
Our college basketball team picks top performers from the weekend's first spring evaluation period.
DJ Carton, PG, Quad City Elite

Heading into this weekend, Carton had high-major offers, was a priority among schools in the Midwest and was ranked among the top 50 players in the country. But Carton, a 6-foot-2 guard, still managed to raise his profile. On the opening day of the weekend, matched up with another high major prospect, Carton proved himself as one of the best lead guards in the country. In an age where there are very few point guards, Carton effectively ran his team, showed impressive vision and passing skills. A strong, physical player, Carton lived in the paint. Once there, Carton distributed the ball, playing almost too unselfish, consistently finding open teammates on the wing or in the corner. He also showed an ability to score at the rim and drop in floaters.

Recruiting: Creighton, Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, Iowa, Marquette, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa State
