Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

It was during the summer of 2010 when the "tatgate" events took place. When Tress lied, it was on the statement every team sends to the NCAA saying they were not aware of any violations. That statement was sent before the beginning of the 2010 season. The Bucks played the 2010 season with players who should not have been eligible. It was AFTER the 2010 regular season, and before the Bowl Game when everything came to light. Tress was fired in the spring of 2011 ( he actually coached the 2011 spring game). Braxton committed in the summer of 2010, BEFORE the season began but didn't enter school until the following year. When everything happened and Tress lied to the NCAA, he was already aware that Braxton would be there for the 2011 season. At the same time, if the "scandal" didn't happen, Pryor would have been the QB in 2011. The question posed is whether the knowledge of Pryor's involvement and the fact that Miller would be there in 2011 affected Tress's decision making. Just remember, although the Bucks were penalized because of the 2010 season after the fact ( when Miller was still in High School but already committed to OSU) nothing became public until AFTER the season. In other words, when Tressel lied to the NCAA prior to the 2010 season, Tress knew Braxton was already committed and would be there for 2011 if Pryor got caught up in the scandal.

Agree, agree. But to suggest that ANY coach (possible exception being Hairball) doesn't look at the next year's talent even during the current season seems to me to be inaccurate. I forgot Guiton, but again we're looking at a drop off in talent going from Pryor to Bauserman, Guiton, and an unknown freshman.

From the perspective of 2009 and 2010, we thought that everyone was going to be a drop off in talent from Pryor. With the high-stress job of Head Coach at Ohio State, I can see why someone would try to cover up a tattoos for loot scheme.

But going back to your original point (not quoted here), I agree that the guy at Michigan (I forget his name) and the guy at Ohio State (Strauss, maybe?) probably did not get fair justice. Dying on their own has left them without that justice. Full disclosure: I haven't followed the fax or evidents in those cases, so I'll reserve judgment. But BWI posters seem to think that the Penn State guys should "get away with it" because Ohio State and Michigan have "gotten away with it".

Eff those mutants.

And, by "get away with it", they're mad because their football program and Dear Leader were dragged into the mud with Sandusky. If Sandusky had been in the wrestling program (like Strauss) or the gymnastics program (like Nasser) they'd be positively giddy that Michigan football and Bo were being besmirched by the accusations. Just one more thing they could use to elevate themselves in their own minds.

My grandpappy used to tell me "don't enable a serial child molester that works for you and you won't get drug into the mud when they catch the sick sonofabitch" or something like that.

They ARE absolutely giddy that Michigan football is going through the mud. It's one of those "Well everyone else is doing it, so we aren't that bad" things. There's one dude over there (or maybe it's a woman - or nonbinary - or who cares? it's ChiTownLion) who has two types of posts. The first is "Here's someone else who was sexually abusing women/kids/senior citizens/whatever", and the second is, "See? Penn State/Joe Paterno didn't do anything wrong in the first place."

They won't stop until they can drag everyone else through the mud, even if the mud is imagined.

The cult gets a few decent commits and goes full DFBIA

The utter cluelessness about what it takes to win a championship, but still feeling strongly like they have it, despite all evidence to the contrary (coming off a 4-5 season, for instance), does appear to be a similarity.

Edit: looks like it was deleted, Mekhi Flowers tweeted something along the lines of “trust me when I say Penn State is in a great position for that nati”
