Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Children were harmed. I can understand not being able to let that go and to continually seek to have the culture that enabled it dismantled.

What these mutants can't let go is that their idols were accused. They are so far down the rabbit-hole that they can't see the holes in Lubrano's fairy-tale narrative and they never will. They can't let go the fact that they didn't get away completely clean.

This proves that the culture that let this happen is still firmly in place.

Even more sickening: This kind of abuse is the gift that keeps on giving. Those who were victimized as children make up the majority of perpetrators. How many of Sandusky's victims have gone on to extend his legacy? The probability that the number is zero... practically zero.

Not victim blaming here; just pointing out the worst, most cringe-inducing fact of this whole thing. And it is a fact. Some of those victims who, as victims, deserve our sympathy, have doubtless grown-up to be predators. It is the sad reality that Sandusky molested enough that this is indeed a statistical certainty.

How big does something have to be to deserve to be called the biggest miscarriage of justice in the history of the NCAA? It has to be as big as Penn State not getting the death penalty, and nothing else is that big.

Cults, man.

So, the original poster says... meh - I don't really care what he says. He posts a link to something Paul Finebaum said. I'm guessing it wasn't something that gives Penn State the 2016 national championship. So the OP calls for everyone to grab their pitchforks. His point is that Franklin had to deal with a program with "crippling sanctions", so he's done pretty well.

Then some good responses of "I don't care".

Then, comes this response:
Contrary to popular belief, the sanctions weren't all that crippling and are frequently used to excuse poor performance. I'll get attacked for saying it and quite frankly, I don't care but they had minimal impact on the team's performance other than the initial wave of transfers which cost us a few games in 12 and 13 and really nothing beyond that. What did cost us was a rookie DC in 2013 and general lack of competence across the board with the offensive staff in 2014 and 2015.

Post 2015, we have had some curious decisions regarding staff and and player personnel, most notably Bob Shoop leaving and appointing Ricky Rahne as OC following JoeMo.

I agree. I don't think most people remember that Penn State would have gone to the Big Ten Championship game in 2012, if they hadn't been ineligible. How do they explain that? Was that their incredible awesomeness? The ghost of Mike Mauti helped them?

These people sound like some Browns fans I know who would complain about "still being an expansion team" in 2010. You made the playoffs in 2002 - no more whining about being an expansion team after that. Penn State fans: you made the championship game (and won) in 2016. No more whining about "crippling sanctions".

And we would have won the last five national championships if it weren't for those damned crippling sanctions!

I know O'Brien and his staff felt they had a really good shot at running the table in 2014. That of course was before Erickson and Joyner ran him out of town but they were that confident.

Ummm, he got an NFL head coaching job, you dolt. And I don't seem to remember him complaining about Erickson and Joyner on his way out of town. He, however, did have a few choice things to say about the "Paterno People."

Why is the other Penn State thread a thing? I almost posted this in that thread.

Slow news day, so let's write something no one should care about, but people will care about it, anyway.

But but but... we're right there with Ohio State!!!

upload_2020-6-22_13-28-12.png

If "you" had won in 2017, there's a possibility "you" would have been in the playoffs. "You" finished with 1 loss other than to Ohio State. 1-loss teams make it to the playoffs all the time. In 2018 "you" finished with 3 losses, other than the game against Ohio State, and that includes losing to Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl. So you're right - beating Ohio State is the next step, but it isn't the only step. In the last 4 years (I don't care if you want to whine about sanctions - that was 4 years before that), Penn State has 8 losses to teams not named "Ohio State". Lose fewer than 2 games per year and maybe you'll be "right there".

You're looking at it the wrong way. You need to look at it in whatever way can give Penn State the best possible outcome. Compare them as a whole to all programs in CFB? Fuck no....that's dumb. Compare them by scoreboard only to one of the 3 elite teams and shade it with bad call conspiracies and ignore the monumental lucky break it took to win in 2016? Now you're talking. They truly were a couple bounces here and there from being basically Alabama.
