OL Wyatt Davis (2-Time 1st Team All-American)

???? National title now in play
As of the moment I'm typing this, no decision about starting the B1G season has been made.

He wouldn’t wait ..he can come back if he wants but I think he may have checked out mentally. (Don’t blame him too much day to day drama.)
Not much time has passed since he made his announcement. For some miraculous reason we do end up playing starting in October I have little doubt he'd seriously reconsider his decision.

We go live to Ohio State message board BuckeyePlanet to check in on the mental status of star offensive lineman Wyatt Davis. How does an internet message board have the inside info on the mental state of a player? That's a good question.

NCs are cute, but if he's mentally checked out and focused on the next level, a trophy means nothing. He could already go in the 1st round without a trophy or anymore college accolades.
If you don’t think a NC trophy means anything well I don’t know what to tell ya.

There’s many guys who never even play for a college or pro championship let alone know the feeling of kissing that thing and holding it above their head to a cheering crowd.

To say that doesn’t mean anything is crazy. Is he focused on his career at this point and a life changing contract for him and his family? Of course as well he should but these guys dream of playing for all the marbles too.

If a shot at a Natty didn’t matter then why did he even come back?

An NC means nothing(neither does the Heisman) when it comes to getting ready for the NFL. It would be nice if he could play for one, but I can bet it won't matter to him much next year when he's in the NFL. He's playing to get to play on Sundays, not just Fridays and Saturdays. I can also bet you that there a lot of NFL players who never played for an NC, but are fine with their current status in the NFL.
And he came back to play for a title(and also to boost draft stock) in a normal season, this isn't one, so why waste his time. He can always reverse course if the B1G gets the stuff together.

I’m just saying this could be the best team he ever plays on and championships aren’t meaningless as you indicated.

Of course there are guys that are fine with their pay checks and life in the NFL and never won a Natty but it’s always something people say that never won one.

If--and it's a huge if--the B1G season could start in Oct and be at least eight regular season games, plus the CCG and a playoff berth, that's at least ten games which is pretty close to a normal season and a chance at getting a natty and possibly some revenge against Clemson for last year. That would be something he would have for the rest of his life. If he stays "declared" and the team goes on to play a season and wins the natty that, too, is something he'd have (to deal with) for the rest of his life.
