OL George Fitzpatrick (Official Thread)

Future Ohio State offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick had a very quiet recruiting process. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound offensive tackle prospect out of Englewood (CO) Cherry Creek High School kept mostly to himself during the process and quietly went about his business before committing to Ohio State over the summer.

Fitzpatrick is once again flying a bit under the radar this week at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, but the four-star prospect is off to good start to his week with two days worth of impressive practices under his belt. The West team is short on offensive linemen this week and it has Fitzpatrick playing mostly at left guard so far, though he’ll be a tackle when he arrives in Columbus next week.

“I’m super excited (about joining the Ohio State program),” Fitzpatrick told BuckeyeScoop.com after Wednesday’s practice session. “I’m going to graduate early which was a big decision for me. To be a Buckeye means everything to me. Just the tradition of the football team and living up to the standard is my goal.”

Day isn’t quite ready to commit to any of those offensive linemen being first off the bench, though. Day still wants to see more from them in preseason camp before he’ll feel comfortable playing them if needed, while he also wants to see how the rest of the Buckeyes’ offensive linemen – including true freshmen George Fitzpatrick, Avery Henry, Carson Hinzman and Tegra Tshabola – fare over the next month.

Well that is good news, we are going to likely need George in a big way this season. Looks like he has added good weight and the frame is ideal for a LT (or RT, whatever fits best). There will be a lot of competition at OT with Tshabola, Fryar, Zen, Montgomery, etc., but I wouldn't count this kid out for at least earning some PT. Plus injuries on the OL are prevalent, we were very fortunate that PJ and Dawand were healthy for so long.
