Just in case anyone cares:wink:

After playing Notre Dame in the great outdoors last week on the USS Yorktown, Ohio State senior guard Tayler Hill didn?t drop to her knees and kiss the court at Value City Arena upon her return to Columbus.

She was, however, happy to be back preparing to play in the great indoors tonight in the home opener against Cincinnati (1-0).

?That I am,? Hill said, smiling.

The Buckeyes (0-1) lost 57-51 to the Fighting Irish in a game that included a blinding sun behind OSU?s basket in the first half and a steady breeze that lowered the temperature after halftime from chilly to really chilly.

Hill refused to blame the weather conditions for the defeat but admitted that ?there were times with the sun? when she had trouble seeing.

It's always good to beat any team from the University of Cincinnati:sad:
The ball moved the way that the wide-eyed Ohio State players had described it during the unseen hours of practice leading up to last night?s home opener against Cincinnati in Value City Arena.

From A to Z and all points in between, passes zipped and players moved and scored within an all-for-one offense that sizzled in an 87-49 victory over the Bearcats.
A quick team a season ago seems to have discovered a different gear since practice began in October.

?We?re so fast, you?ve got to be like this,? sophomore guard Raven Ferguson said, snapping her fingers twice. ?The ball just moves. It just doesn?t stop. It?s not dribbling around. It?s moving. That?s what I think the difference is.?

The 20th-ranked Buckeyes (1-1) declawed the Bearcats in the first half by hitting 77.3 percent (17 of 22) from the field and breaking to a 42-21 lead. The defense also was smothering ? Cincinnati shot 29.4 percent for the game.

?They?re a good team, and they play (darned) good at home,? Bearcats coach Jamelle Elliott said. ?I?ve been coaching this game for a long time, and I don?t think I?ve ever been part of a game where a team shot 77 percent from the floor, missing five shots. It?s hard to win games like that.?

Guard Tyler Scaife of Hall High School in Little Rock, Ark., is expected to announce her college choice today. Although Ohio State was in the senior's final five, sources say the Buckeyes are not her choice.

Scaife appears headed toward Tennessee, Rutgers or LSU. Her decision makes the Buckeyes 0 for 4 in efforts to find a guard or two to replace seniors Tayler Hill and Amber Stokes next season.

Linnae Harper (Kentucky) of Chicago, Saniya Chong (Connecticut) of New York and Jordan Reynolds (Tennessee) of Oregon previously passed on Ohio State.

The early signing period began on Wednesday.

Ashley Adams has the kind of demeanor and soft tone to her voice that marks her as a gentle soul.

Yet, this 6-foot-5 Ohio State junior center wasn?t shy about showing a sharper, more physical edge yesterday while leading the 20th-ranked Buckeyes past Winthrop 78-53 at St. John Arena.
Adams? statistics line ? 14 points, eight rebounds, six blocked shots and four assists in 24 minutes ? didn?t surprise senior co-captain Tayler Hill as much as her bounce did.

?I don?t think she?s added a lot (to her game),? Hill said. ?I just think she?s being more aggressive. She?s always had the talent. She?s always had the skill set. She just decided to be more aggressive this year. That makes everything a lot easier.?

Hill meant easier for everyone on the team. Adams and junior power forward Darryce Moore, who had career highs with 16 points and nine rebounds, dominated inside against the smaller Eagles (1-1).

?It comes with experience,? Hill said. ?It?s their junior year. Ashley played the last two years and Reece played last year. When you?re on the court and you get to play, you start to learn and to adjust your game.?

A women?s basketball game with 44 combined turnovers has the look of a Thanksgiving day kitchen after dinner. Dirty dishes, plates, silverware and whatever is left of the turkey seem spread from here to there.

At least Ohio State, author of 19 turnovers, could say thanks for a 70-54 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) last night in Value City Arena and look to clean things up later.

The 16th-ranked Buckeyes (3-1) didn?t ditch the Red Flash (3-1) until the midway point of the second half. Senior co-captain Tayler Hill scored 12 of her 23 points during a five-minute stretch when the lead grew from 44-41 to 62-48 with 8:30 remaining.

Ohio State played without junior center Ashley Adams, who reinjured a quadriceps muscle in practice on Monday that had bothered her in the preseason. Her absence was one reason for how tough Saint Francis made things at times, especially in the first half.

?She?s an integral part,? Ohio State coach Jim Foster said. ?We play through her. She?s a great passer, sure. And Tayler struggled (early). But I thought our defense was good. Games like this, they help you figure out who you are.

?Tayler doesn?t have to play great for us to win a game. We know we can win a game without Ashley. (Saint Francis) was aggressive, and they came at us hard. I like that. I liked the fact that we had to really, really work.?

• Matchup to watch: Another game for the Buckeyes against a team with strong guard play. Tayler Hill and Amber Stokes will do what they do. Raven Ferguson, Ameryst Alston and Maleeka Kynard must match the defensive intensity.

• Notable: Wright State defeated Buffalo 66-51 last Sunday with guards Kim Demmings (22) and KC Elkins (18) combining for 40 points. The Raiders shot 45.5 percent from the field. Wright State has 10 Ohio players on its roster, including freshman guard Jasmine Johnson of Brookhaven. ... The Buckeyes stopped Saint Francis (Pa.) 70-54 on Tuesday. Hill scored 23 points and has reached double figures in 38 consecutive games. Junior center Ashley Adams suffered a strained quadricepsin practice on Monday and did not play. She is doubtful for today. Martina Ellerbe started in her place and scored a career-high 10 points. Alston also had a career-high 10 points off the bench. Freshman guard Cait Craft missed her third straight game because of the aftereffects of a concussion.

• Next: at North Carolina, 7 p.m. Wednesday

When Ohio State coach Jim Foster made his first substitution yesterday afternoon against Wright State at the 15:03 mark of the first half, the game in Value City Arena had barely begun to simmer, let alone boil.

The move, replacing center Ashley Adams with Martina Ellerbe, didn?t call for any head scratching. Adams had missed Tuesday?s game against Saint Francis (Pa.) because of a left quadriceps strain, and caution outweighed need.

But as the game ballooned toward an eventual 82-52 blowout victory for the 16th-ranked Buckeyes (4-1), Foster began finding opportunities for every player on his bench except freshman post Lisa Blair, who?s redshirting.

The results had him sifting through a postgame box score like a prospector picking gold nuggets from a pan. Thirteen players scored, and 12 grabbed rebounds. Ten had at least one assist.

?It?s a very unselfish group,? Foster said, ?and they understand that the sum of our parts is going to equal our success. And they?re very willing to accommodate that. That makes the job that much easier.?

Co-captains Tayler Hill and Amber Stokes spent chunks of the second half leading cheers from the bench while watching Maleeka Kynard, Cait Craft and Shelbi Honeycutt nail three-pointers.

This could get ugly:sad: 7 PM tonight
? Where: Carmichael Arena, Chapel Hill, N.C.
? TV: None
? Radio: WBNS-AM (1460)
? Records: Ohio State 4-1; North Carolina 6-0

? Matchup to watch: Rebounding will tell. St. Francis (Pa.) coach Joe Haigh was stunned after his smaller Red Flash tied the Buckeyes on the boards despite losing 70-54. The Tar Heels are crushing opponents by 10 rebounds per game. A bad night on the defensive glass will translate into a bad result for the Buckeyes.

? Notable: This game is part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. ? North Carolina won the preseason WNIT, beating Iowa 77-64 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena behind 22 points from Tierra Ruffin-Pratt. ? The Tar Heels are averaging 14 steals a game and are forcing 24.5 turnovers. ? Freshman Xylina McDaniel is averaging 11.5 points and 9.7 rebounds. .... The Buckeyes stopped Wright State 82-52 on Sunday and have won four straight since losing their opener to Notre Dame. ? Senior Tayler Hill has scored in double figures in 39 consecutive games. ? Center Ashley Adams returned from a quadriceps injury to score eight points in 17 minutes.

? Next: vs. Evansville, noon Saturday, Value City Arena

What the heck is going on with Foster? Is he forgetting that he still has to recruit when the season starts? Matta needs to get into his office and remind him what it takes to be a Buckeye basketball coach.

Someone forgot the women's team. They played UNC a lot tougher than I thought they would. Kudos to them.
from a 16-point deficit with 10:12 left in the game to take a 54-51 lead with 1:27 on the clock against North Carolina tonight in Carmichael Arena but faded at the finish to lose 57-54 in the ACC/Big Ten challenge.

Tierra Ruffin-Pratt stole the ball twice in the final 43 seconds and scored to lift the Tar Heels to the win. Tayler Hill missed a three-pointer at the buzzer for the Buckeyes. Ohio State had taken the 54-51 lead on scores by Ashley Adams and Hill, but couldn't close the deal. Hill ignited the comeback for the Buckeyes by scoring 14 of her 24 points in the second half

North Carolina took a 29-25 lead over Ohio State into the locker room after the first half and seemed in control when Xylina McDaniel made two free throws with 10:12 left to make it 46-30. Hill mounted the charge by scoring 10 points in three minutes.

The game opened at a pace that drew turnovers as surely as a picnic does yellowjackets.
