Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SEASON OPENER CANCELED FOLLOWING AKRON COVID-19 RESULTS

The women’s basketball team will have to wait a little longer to begin its 2020-21 campaign.

The Wednesday game between No. 20 Ohio State and Akron has been canceled. After Akron shared its COVID-19 results, the Ohio State Department of Athletics made the cancellation decision in accordance with nonconference protocols.

The game will not affect the men’s basketball game against Illinois State that is slated to tipoff at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Ohio State women’s basketball is now set to begin its season Sunday at 4 p.m. against Duquesne.

Yeah, so it seems, Bestbuck. We enjoy watching the women (maybe comes from a daughter that played bball). I'll add ESPNU. Look at BTN 'line-up' all the time, and guess with Covid, they're hesitant to commit. Must be tough schlepping all that equipment back and forth. go Bucks!

31-4 opening quarter pretty much summed it all up. Starters were very impressive but Poole coming off the bench was a great contributor as well on excellent shooting percentage and overall production. Girls only turned it over 3 times which is fantastic while forcing 14 for Kent. Totally outmatched the Flashes. Good confidence builder but they need to realize the talent gap and continue to play hard. I really like this roster and the variety they can come with depending on the opponents.

Hopefully we'll actually get to watch a game really soon

Since couldn't watch, the full stats are on the official osu site. Only thing I noticed, other than the pretty even scoring by the starters, was that North Kentucky had 15 offensive rebounds versus 6 for the 'good gals'. Until we can see for ourselves, guess Patty is playing a low post and Dorkas is playing a wing, driving or pulling up as the defense allows. Will be great to see a game.......Go Bucks!

NCAA to play women's NCAA basketball tournament at one site, eyes San Antonio

The NCAA plans to stage the entire women's basketball tournament in one geographic area and San Antonio is the likely host site.

The move, announced Monday, was made to help mitigate the risks of COVID-19 and matches that of the men's tournament, which the NCAA said last month will be played in a single area -- most likely Indianapolis.

The women's Final Four in 2021 was already set for San Antonio and the NCAA has begun preliminary talks with the Texas city to hold the entire 64-team tournament in the area.

"Conducting the championship in one geographic region allows for more planning and execution of safeguards that provide potential benefits for promoting the health and safety of student athletes, the NCAA membership and all individuals involved in the championship," said Nina King, the NCAA women's basketball committee chair and senior athletic director at Duke. "By making this difficult decision now, it allows for an earlier opportunity to work proactively with local public health officials within the host communities and ensures that the identified guidelines and protocols are considered for a more controlled environment."

Good hire McGuff and pay attention to what is going on in your program. Jackass
As first reported by Buckeye Sports Bulletin's Wyatt Crosher, former Ohio State women's basketball assistant coach Patrick Klein “violated Ohio State’s sexual harassment policy through text messages and social media interactions with at least 13 student-athletes” and Klein's behavior toward those athletes “consisted of a pervasive pattern of conduct that was reasonably perceived to be sexual in nature and that it interfered with the athletic experience of those student-athletes.”

The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions found that Klein also provided gifts to certain athletes, including paying for meals and purchasing gifts. Klein resigned from his position in August 2019, and Ohio State has since changed his employment designation to “resignation in lieu of termination.” He has been given a three-year show-cause penalty by the NCAA. Per the summary disposition report submitted to the NCAA, head women's basketball coach Kevin McGuff “had no knowledge of Klein's improprieties, nor that NCAA violations occurred as a result of Klein's improper relationships.”
