Tanner Tully pitched another gem as the Buckeyes bolstered their Big Ten tournament hopes with a blanking of the Hawkeyes.

Ohio State kicked off its weekend series against Iowa exactly the way it needed to, defeating the Hawkeyes 6-0. The Buckeyes improved to 9-7 in Big Ten play, keeping hold of the eighth and final spot in the conference tournament.

Tanner Tully posted his team-leading seventh quality start of the season for Ohio State, improving to 6-3. The lefty from Elkhart, Indiana tossed seven shutout innings, scattering four hits, walking three, and striking out four.

Ronnie Dawson hit his ninth home run of the season, part of a two RBI, one run scored night.

Jalen Washington added three runs batted in while going 3-for-4, and Jacob Bosiokovic went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to help pace an Ohio State offensive attack that jumped on Iowa starter C.J. Eldred early.

Eldred lasted four innings, yielding five runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out one. The right-hander fell to 2-7 on the season for the Hawkeyes.

Senior shortstop Craig Nennig had himself a day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5, driving in a run and scoring a run.

Ohio State put a pair of runs up in the bottom of the second to take the early 2-0 lead. Bosiokovic dropped a bunt single and moved to third on a double by L. Grant Davis. Washington then singled them both home right back up the middle.

The Buckeyes hung a crooked number on the board in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Washington doubled and scored on a triple by Nennig. Dawson followed that by belting a two-run home run to right-center.

Bosiokovic led off the fifth with a triple of his own off Iowa reliever Jared Mandel, and Washington went the other way to single him home and make it 6-0.

Kyle Michalik relieved Tully in the eighth and maintained the shutout for the final two innings, as Iowa was limited to just five hits on the night. It was the third time this season that the Buckeyes held their opposition scoreless.

Game two of the series is scheduled to take place at 3:05 p.m. ET on Saturday, with Ohio State's John Havird on the bump against Iowa's Tyler Peyton. The 1966 National Championship team will be recognized at the game, which will stream live on BTN Plus.
