OL Tegra Tshabola (Official Thread)

“IT WAS A CHANCE I COULDN’T MISS”

Those things may seem minor on the surface, but they weren’t small in the mind of the state’s second-ranked rising junior, and exactly five months after that Nov. 23 game against Penn State, Tshabola became the second player in the Buckeyes’ class of 2022 on April 23, announcing his commitment on the first night of the NFL draft.

Tshabola took us through that night a bit this week, saying he had been pretty confident in his decision to join the Buckeyes “for about a month,” and that confidence only grew throughout the week.

“But I didn’t wanna put it all out there. I didn’t want anyone to start talking,” Tshabola said. “So I talked to my parents and my high school coaches and coaches at Ohio State. It just happened to be that night of the NFL draft. We got on our Zoom meeting with Coach Day, and I let him know.”

On a Zoom call with Day, Greg Studrawa and assistant offensive line coach Kennedy Cook – whom Tshabola says he speaks with the most frequently on the staff – the 6-foot-6, 320-pounder, ranked No. 69 overall and No. 6 at offensive tackle by 247Sports, grabbed the opportunity to become the second player in the 2022 cycle to commit to the Buckeyes in as many days.

“Just the fact that I had a chance to be on the short list of guys to commit to Ohio State, it was a chance I couldn’t miss,” Tshabola said. “I was really excited about that.”

Cincinnati offers Ohio State 2022 commit Tegra Tshabola.

Tshabola is from West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West—just 25 minutes down the road from UC. He is the No. 2 prospect in Ohio and the country’s No. 6 offensive tackle. He committed to Ohio State on April 23 and currently holds 14 offers.

TSHABOLA LOOKS HUGE … AND FLUID

When we spoke to him a few weeks ago, Brown’s evaluation of his future Lakota West and Ohio State teammate, Tegra Tshabola, was pretty simple: “Sheer dominance. He’s a big guy.”

Pretty hard to refute that analysis after seeing Tshabola for the first time in person on Saturday. But the most impressive part came when he actually began moving laterally and vertically. The one video clip we snagged of Tshabola was indicative of how he looked throughout the day – incredibly athletic and agile for his massive size.

We’ve been saying for a while that Tshabola could end up as a borderline five-star prospect down the road, and he certainly looked the part on Saturday.

TSHABOLA COMMENTS ON DAVIS OPT OUT
On Friday, about nine hours before Ohio State 2022 offensive line commit Tegra Tshabola took the field for Lakota West, the Buckeyes officially had their first opt of the season when Wyatt Davis announced he would be forgoing his junior season in scarlet and gray in order to prepare for the NFL draft.

For Tshabola, he was happy to see Davis decide to head to the pros. Tshabola is a top-125 overall player ranked as the No. 12 offensive tackle in his class. He committed to the Buckeyes the same night as the first round of the NFL draft, and the 6-foot-5, 340-pounder has NFL aspirations of his own.

“It's really inspiring 'cause it lets me know that in a couple years I'm gonna be in the same position he is and I can make that choice too,” Tshabola told Eleven Warriors following the Firebirds' 33-0 win over Sycamore on Friday night. “But that's good for him. That's good for him and his family, knowing that he's doing that.”
