I have and idea for a modification to the functionality of 'New Posts'. I'm assuming that most people like me go there first to find the current hot topics when they visit here. I have been noticing a lot of threads being started lately that are very similar to many of the long threads we have had running for some time now. I don't think this is a big problem or anything, but perhaps a nuisance for some of the mods/admins to have to keep merging threads. I try and point out whenever I can if I think a thread is merge-able to condense the material on here.
Anyways, my idea is if there would be a way to categorize the results in the 'New Posts' search by the topics used in the 'BuckeyePlanet Ohio State Forums' link. So if you clicked on 'New Posts' you would see a section for Football, Basketball, Varied Interest, etc...
That would not have to be the exact organization either because I know say Baseball isn't that popular while Open Discussion is very popular. The way they would be organized could be totally up to the admins/mods.
I am not sure if this would even work or if it is feasible or not. Maybe you all don't like the idea either and that's ok, I'm just doing what I can to give opinions on how to make this place even better. I just have found that many threads are getting repetitive and I think this might be a way for users to spot the already existing threads with more ease. Thanks for the consideration :)
