Researching the Magic!
My LaCie 320GB external has finally reached a point of no return, which means I'm looking for a new external drive. My preferences are at least 1TB of storage (I'll settle for 500-750GB if I have to), and a network connectable (i.e. ethernet connection) drive. Having a MacBook Pro, the obvious choice is the Time Capsule, which I do like. However I already have a wireless-n router that has worked (although I have had a few problems, a Linksys WRT160N), so I'm not really leaning towards that. I've heard Western Digital typically has good externals, so I've looked at what they have in the networked options. So here is what I have found after a quick look around both at WD and at Seagate.

WD Option 1
Seagate Option 1

I also found this, which intrigues me, but I'm not quite sure its what I'm looking for.

Any of you guys have advice/thoughts/suggestions? The reviews and specs on all of these options are a little underwhelming, so I may settle for a new USB/Firewire drive.

I use the Seagate FreeAgent Go with my MBP. Have one that's 320 GB and one that's 750 GB. Plan to get another that's 1 TB. I like them because they're able to run off USB with no external power supply - fewer cables, can take them on the road easily. Not rapid because of the USB interface, so if speed's your thing, maybe not the best solution.

As for networking, I have a simple Windows home network that works fine with the MBP in both OSX and Vista operating systems, and lets me access the external drives from other (Windows) computers on the network. One of the FreeAgent Go's is formatted for Vista use, the other for Mac use. Easy as pie.
