MIKE AND MIKE - Had a discussion today over the greatest player ever on each team and the 49'ers was between Montana and Rice with Rice then eventual winner. How would you have voted as you have 2 of the best ever !

The Steelers also was a tough one- Franco,Webster, Lambert, Ham , Mean Joe and Bradshaw....

I'd also give the nod to Rice, barely. No wonder the 49ers were so good, having the best WR of all time and arguably the best QB of all time as a combo.

On a side note, I got to meet Franco Harris a year or so ago here on Hickam for a signing, and he was the nicest, most personable guy you could ever meet. I hated "The Immaculate Reception" in 1972 because I hate the Steelers, but after meeting Harris I am glad he made that catch.

I think Montana was great, but I think Rice made that team. His work ethic was unparalleled, and everyone drew off of that. He also made John Taylor and Brent Jones all-pros by drawing all the attention in addition to getting his own yards, which on other teams would never have happened. As for Pittsburgh, Harris was good but ran out of bounds all the time, Bradshaw was good, especially as a leader, but not a great QB, and Swann is the most overrated receiver in history, so I would have to go with Lambert and Mel Blount, with Webster, Stallworth, Greene, and Ham close behind.
