Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

Never Forget 31-0
Miami coach Larry Coker has agreed to a new five-year contract that will take him through the 2009 season, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Coker had three years remaining on his previous deal but will receive an immediate increase in pay that puts him among the highest-paid coaches in the ACC, according to the source.

Coker is 44-6 in four seasons at Miami, leading the Hurricanes to a national championship in 2001 and the national championship game in 2002. Coker's winning percentage of .880 is fifth-best among coaches in their first 50 games. The Hurricanes open their season at Florida State on Sept. 5.
How in the world does this guy get a new deal when in reality he has not been able to win anything with HIS recruits?

Didn't you realize everything that has happened to them since the Fiesta Bowl is a direct result of Terry Porter's call? His recruits would be doing much better had he made the "correct" call. :nerd:

Coaches need to have the 5-year deal in order to tell recruits they'll be the head coach for the kids' whole careers.

I'm also glad they extended him. I don't think he's a very good coach, but it's hard to dump a guy that's 44-6. I think I vaguely remember that first loss.

Each year he's lost 1 more game (0, 1, 2, 3). Last year's losing at N. Carolina, and at home to Clemson and Va. Tech, does not make all those loud-mouth ex-Canes happy about the program at the 'U'.

Do you mean the Christopher Lloyd or Jackie Coogan version?

With the talent he had when he started, I don't know how he lost 6 games... with that said, I'd guess he has a lot of ego's to deal with. It's prob. 50% coaching 50% dealing with attitudes...
Definitely...you try gettin' those florida kids to be humble...easier said than done...just look at how many of them turn out when they go to the NFL also

Its not a coincidence that none of them have incidents while at Miami, and then once they are outside of the Miami bubble they get in major trouble. But yes, there are bad apples anywhere in america.

Come on, what is with the cheapshot on Florida kids? There are idiots in every part of the country. Ohio has them as well. (Maurice Clarett)
Yes they come from all over I totally agree. I meant it moreso as a shot to Miami U not the whole state of florida so please dont take it personally...I had just listened to eSPIN radio the other day and they were talking about tOSU Luckeyes and how they robbed Miami of its national championship and it conjured some anger I had after that game and all the whining the Miami U lovers did...consider this my edit to the previous post and fuck ESPN!
