2021 MI DL Damon Payne (Alabama Verbal)

SPINDLER, PAYNE DROP COMMITMENT DATES

Even though Ohio State appears to be out of the mix for Rocco Spindler and Damon Payne – a pair of top-50 overall prospects from Michigan – it won’t be long until we find out where the two are headed for college.

As for Payne, it looks like Alabama is going to add another five-star recruit to its scorching-hot class. Payne, ranked No. 18 overall, would be the third five-star commit for the Crimson Tide in 2021 and the fourth top-50 player they have landed a commitment from.

OSU hasn’t been pursuing Payne for months....Spindler was never coming to OSU. His Dad despises OSU. Think “Pitt/Mark May”.

Not saying you're wrong because sounds like you have good info. But if he was NEVER coming to Ohio St. why drop these quotes to Birm about six weeks ago?
(Birm First) He says the two sides speak regularly and that the Ohio State program is very much in the mix. (Rocco) "We talk every single day" he said of the Buckeyes.
"Either text, calls,or Zoom. They're in it to win it, there's no ground to make up".

Either the Spindlers recently changed their minds in a big way or they went to a great deal of effort to troll the Buckeyes.

Kids say things to interviewers from certain schools knowing it’s the content they want all the time. While he gave him those quotes, Birm has said for months it wasn’t happening.

There’s been plenty of examples of kids throughout the years who have let Ohio State recruit them, but were never coming here. Likewise, there’s been plenty of kids that came to Ohio State who let other schools recruit them, but had no intentions of going elsewhere.

I would say something snarky like, “What are these guys, teenagers?”, but these days adult-aged humans do stuff like that all the time

Birm, BG, and others so yeah most of us who follow recruiting knew the Bucks were 4th or 5th on a 3 team list. Just can't understand the mentality . You have 'abject hatred' for OSU that's fine. Save the catfishing for some random GF that dumped you or better yet take that spare time you wasted 'saying things' to interviewers and volunteer somewhere.

Meh. I can't blame a kid for refusing to burn bridges before a final decision is made.

Had Nick Saban announced his retirement two weeks ago, does anyone really believe Payne would have announced his commitment to Alabama today?

This reminds me of a player that for some reason we didn’t recruit and will but us in the butt
Why? Payne is leaving a neighbor state for a school that the Buckeyes rarely play and rarely affected by directly. It'd be one thing if Payne stayed in conference or (worse) joined TSUN, but the Tide are pretty distant to worry about getting bit in the butt. Yes there's the playoffs, but that is such a stroke of random luck and fortune that I wouldn't worry about one player for one team in particular.

Just an opinion didn’t need to get attacked, I of course thought about all of those. He could also be irrelevant so who knows, just think we play him in future and it comes back to bite us is all.

Someone disagreeing with you doesn't meet this board's definition of an "attack" by a long shot. Frankly, I think "Diego" was pretty gentle and you're lucky that he was the one that responded. It seems like you're saying that the Buckeyes didn't land Payne because they chose not to recruit him. This probably seemed odd to a lot of people on the board as very few think the staff would have landed him regardless of the time and resources they poured down that drain. As for the rest of your statement, I'm curious what you think constitutes biting Ohio State in the butt. Does this mean he would contribute to an Alabama victory over Ohio State or just that he would play well against the Buckeyes?
