Jeff Sagarin has just published the new ratings. The Buckeye men are now ranked in the top 25. Moreover, they are ranked 12th on predictor. When is the last time that happened?

The rankings remain very unstable this time of year, Texas Tech fell from #6 to below the Buckeyes, but it certainly suggests that this team may have more to it than many of us thought they would have this year.

Let's hope, for the sake of the seniors, that they have one hell of a year and really embarrass the folks who have called the post-season ban a meaningless gesture because they had no hope of qualifying anyway.

I hope the Bucks do very well this season, and make some noise in the Big Ten Tournament, but the ban was probably better off for tOSU in the long run. With Matta's reputation of recruiting and the way he has the Bucks playing already, you cant help but look towards the future. The self imposed one year ban most likely will keep the NCAA from using any type of postseason ban in the future after there investigations. Although the Bucks may have a good enough record to make it to the dance this year, their talent level is not good enough quite yet to make it too far. It would be ashame to have a postseason ban in a couple of years when Matta has the boys playing big time ball with his recruited players and his system fully installed.

I was under the impression that the post season ban included the Big Ten tournament. Is that true, or not?

It would be nice to think they will have what it takes to win the B10 tourney, other outsiders have won. But, realistically, that's an awful big ask and I agree that its better to get the year behind us now and then give Matta a chance to show his stuff in the recruiting.

Still, it's nice to see these guys winning and standing proud. It says a lot about them and their coach.

Computer rating after Iowa victory

Bucks are #24 at Mike Greenfield's Teamrankings.com. He has them losing at Wisconsin by less than two and then winning nine of the next ten. He has us at #15 in the RPI's!

The Buckeyes are back at #25 in the Sagarin's, just behind Iowa and Wisconsin and separted from the top 20 by less than half a point. Looks about the same as to future games given this rating.

Sagarin's Predictor is probably the most accurate of the three major ratings in terms of predicting future games.

So, we could see these guys at 22-5 or 22-6? The last three games prior to the Big Ten Tourney look brutal, but remember, this is all these guys have to play for and they appear to be the kind of high quality outfit that will come out shootin'!
