LB Tommy ‘Two Thumbs’ Eichenberg (Rose Bowl Def MVP, All B1G, All-American)

I understand Tommy's initial allegiance to BC. However, when Tommy looks up and sees half the stands empty at BC and a program that will not win anything, then he has to reassess it all. Buckeye offers are not automatic, they have to be earned because that's the way it is at an Elite Program. Tommy earned it, the Buckeye offer is there, the Staff wants him and it is the Right choice.

That thought process isn't always shared among kids from a Catholic HS...

THE HURRY UP: CLEVELAND ST. IGNATIUS' TOMMY EICHENBERG PLAYING AT MIKE AND THE IMPORTANCE OF FRIDAY'S VISIT TO WESTERN HILLS' WANDALE ROBINSON AND CHAPARRAL'S JACK MILLER TO MISS REST OF SEASON

MOVING TO MIKE

Since Ohio State offered Cleveland St. Ignatius linebacker Tommy Eichenberg on Sept. 26, many have talked about his potential at the inside linebacker position at the collegiate level. Thankfully for those experts, Eichenberg is now playing in the middle with St. Ignatius.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound four-star prospect has impressed throughout his senior season. For instance, in last week's 27-20 win over St. Xavier and future Buckeye Paris Johnson Jr., Eichenberg led the Wildcats' defense with 12 tackles.

As a junior, Eichenberg made a living off playing outside linebacker. He did the same early this fall as well. But since his move to mike, he's impressed thoroughly and shown his upside and potential at the position. For Ohio State, that means a great deal considering their current linebacker corps.

Currently, the Boston College commit is considered Ohio's 11th-best overall prospect and the nation's 19th-best inside linebacker. He says even though he's committed to BC, Ohio State's offer has made his decision "really hard."

"They are telling me they want me to be a Buckeye, and I am thinking about what they're telling," Eichenberg told 247Sports about Ohio State assistants Greg Schiano, Billy Davis and Tony Alford. "It's really hard, because I like Boston College so much, and it's given me a lot to think about. I want to take that visit, and I think I would make a later decision on things."

Eichenberg decommit sets up Ohio State - Michigan recruiting war

Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius 2019 linebacker Tommy Eichenberg last visited Ohio State for the Buckeyes’ spring game. He committed to Boston College in late June. But Eichenberg landed a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes in September.

“I talked to them today and they offered,” Eichenberg said the day the Buckeyes offered. “I talked to coach (Mark) Pantoni and coach (Bill) Davis. They said I’m having a great season and they didn’t want to wait any longer. I was obviously excited. They said they don’t want to pressure me, but they want me to visit.”

Not too long after the Ohio State offer Eichenberg landed a scholarship offer from Michigan. But even with those two offers Eichenberg remained a Boston College commitment. But that is no longer the case. Eichenberg has announced he has decommitted from Boston College. Eichenberg made his announcement on his Twitter account.

Eichenberg’s older brother Liam is a starting offensive lineman at Notre Dame.

Bucknuts attended one of Eichenberg’s practices on in mid-October and interviewed Wildcat’s star who the Buckeyes are recruiting as a middle linebacker. The Buckeyes at one time had a commitment from a middle linebacker, but that changed in late September when Kane Patterson decommitted from Ohio State and later committed to Clemson.

In October Eichenberg talked about many topics with Bucknuts including Ohio State and Michigan.

Eichenberg had a spectacular senior season in leading St. Ignatius to the state playoffs and an 8-3 final record.

The 6-foot-3 and 225-pound Eichenberg is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 360 overall prospect, the No. 19 inside linebacker, and the No. 11 prospect in Ohio.
