do they get a LA pick if they make the playoffs?

Yes they do. They get LA's first rounder if LA makes the playoffs. If LA doesn't make the playoffs, then I believe they get Miami's first rounder which is basically a second rounder.

The Cavs have the option to swap Miami's first rounder with the Lakers if they make the playoffs. Either way the pick that the Lakers do get goes to the Suns so they don't get a first rounder.

Right. That would be huge for the Cavs in what is considered a somewhat weak draft. Basically the difference between the 16th and 32 picks in the first round.

MRI shows torn rotator cuff for Lakers G Kobe Bryant

Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant underwent an MRI on his injured shoulder Thursday morning, which revealed a tear of the rotator cuff, the team announced.

Bryant injured his right shoulder in the second half of Wednesday's 96-80 loss to New Orleans and was absent from Thursday's practice. Although the preliminary results revealed a tear, Bryant will return to Los Angeles later on Thursday and will be examined by team doctors on Friday. The team is expected to release another update on his status after his follow-up tests, leaving his status for the second half of the season up in the air.
