Kevin (Tim “Asshat” Racadb) Warren (ex-B1G Commissioner)

You shouldn't say you would have made the same decisions re: COVID-19 now, unless you're actually saying you were following orders from the B1G presidents and you would still decide to follow their orders because your job is solely to please B1G leadership.

The reality is there is no shame in admitting we were/are dealing with a novel virus and trying to do the right thing, but we didn't have a full understanding of the virus at first and made some misjudgments and missteps. The important thing is to note you have learned more about the virus and won't make the same mistakes. Warren doubling down on his actions last year - specifically regarding suspending the season abruptly - is either playing politics in trying to avoid admitting his faults to try to make himself look good, or actually an admission that he just does whatever the B1G administrators tell him to do. Maybe it is both.

The B1G needs a new guy, ASAP. Can Ohio State start working the other Presidents to make this happen?

This is not an "SEC! SEC! SEC!" post, but contrast CKW's performance and execution with Greg Sankey's "acquisition" of Texas and Oklahoma.

This stuff happened smack dab in the middle of COVID. Greg Sankey for Commissioner of the Year imo.

Greg Sankey for "Only Competent Conference Commissioner"?

The SEC’s Sankey has been proactively working to add Texas and Oklahoma, and working with ESPN to push the agenda for an expanded playoff, which will result in 4, 5, or 6 SEC teams usually making the 12-team playoff. That will diminish the impact the B1G has on college football, and over time make success for its teams more difficult.

This commissioner needs to take action now, joining with the other leagues to shut down playoff expansion. Keeping the playoff at 4 teams well beyond the next few years will make any move for Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC far less attractive, and could be a critical factor in preventing the SEC from becoming a larger monster in the college football world.

A year of blunders, late starts on important initiatives and ideas, and extremely poor communication couldn't be wiped away with one press conference to start Big Ten football media days. Kevin Warren wasn't going to say anything at that podium that could convince people with their minds set against him that he had turned to corner on this job. But he could've started the process. He could've taken more than seven questions (two of which barely registered as that). He could've had concrete answers to ongoing, urgent events. He could've shown humility or contrition for things that he and his office screwed up.

Instead, the only thing that Warren's press conference accomplished was to remind everyone watching of a nagging question that's been at the back of our minds since last summer:

HOW THE HELL DID WE GET HERE?

Report: Salary for B1G commissioner Kevin Warren revealed

According to Steve Berkowitz, Warren’s official start date with the conference was Sept. 16, 2019 and received a total of just under $1.2 million for the calendar. That means that the commissioner would receive approximately $4.1 million for a full calendar year in the job.

The B1G paying Warren's salary is actually worse than...

...due to his incompetence.

And even if he wants to double down on the “decisions” he could always admit he could have communicated better. This guy just does not got messaging/optics, at all.

This is a great approach IMO

If no one else expands, the SEC just made it harder for everyone in their conference UNLESS, there is playoff expansion

Here’s the thing though; IF this really happens, the Power 5 just became the Power 4

So you have the 4 power conference champions and no one else in the playoff

Sure, the SEC will vote against that. But if the B1G can put a competent commissioner in place fast enough, there is a natural split in college football now between the SEC and absolutely everyone else. That should be an easy coalition to put together at this point

4 power conference champions
4 team playoff

screw the sec
