Indinia Hoosiers (occifail therad of dyslexia)

I'm reading reports that Indiana has suspended football activities due to COVID. How much would that suck if their only chance to play for a conference championship game in 100 years is destroyed for the same reason that they actually had a shot at the conference championship?

Feel free to read sarcasm into that rhetorical question.

Officially canceled.

By mutual agreement:

Athletic directors Scott Dolson and Mike Bobinski also made a joint statement.

“We’re certainly disappointed that we had to cancel the Old Oaken Bucket game. We both understand the history and tradition of one of the best rivalries in college football, but the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff is our primary priority. We will continue to monitor the situation on both campuses and listen to the advice of our medical professionals.” – Joint statement from Indiana Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson and Purdue Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Bobinski

Which begs the question: If the B1G did not change the B1G CCG 6 game rule, would Indiana have been able to play in a B1G CCG next weeknd? It will be interesting to see if Indiana plays a game next weekend.

Indeed. If they hadn't changed the rules and IU can't play next weekend, that would have put the MSU/PSU winner in the title game?

My first though is that the B1G would have declared Indiana and NW co-B1G Champions and the slate of games for Dec 19th wouldn't include a B1G Championship Game. However, on 2nd thought you could be correct; the B1G would want to have the official B1G CCG just to get the TV money, etc.

NOT EVEN MAD. I've seen a lot of terrible takes on Twitter the past few days about the Big Ten's decision to ax the six-game minimum, but ironically, none of them have come from the only team that's actually affected.

Indiana, by all accounts, completely understands why the rule was changed and sees that they had an opportunity to earn it on the field and didn't.

Even in Indiana's official statement, they said: “We had our chance to earn our spot in the Big Ten Championship Game, but ultimately fell a touchdown short on the road against a great Ohio State team.”

That is the only correct response, and I sincerely applaud Indiana for having it.

Indiana coach Tom Allen was named Thursday as this year's Big Ten Coach of the Year, earning the award after guiding the Hoosiers to a 6-1 regular-season record, with their only loss coming in a 42-35 defeat at Ohio State.

He thwarted Fitzgerald’s plan of tanking 2019 so he could have a big bounce-back year and win it two years apart.
