HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Day needs to empower Knowles ..I’d have no problem letting LJ share power if he was rolling out Bosa and Chase. Empower Knowles and then you can really evaluate his D. And hold him accountable. I hope they aren’t pointing fingers.
He needs to just for the simple fact that’s why he hired him to begin with. Otherwise I agree in that how else can Day really gauge Jim Knowles if there really are issues with control over the units.

Ryan Day is the CEO.
Jim Knowles is the COO.

The COO implements the CEO visions across the company, ensuring each department operates within the strategy laid out by the CEO.

Larry Johnson is one of several Department Heads.

The Department Head oversees a specific area within the organization, his job is to execute the COO's strategy.

Ideally, the CEO and the COO would work together to fix the misalignment with the Department Head and make sure everyone is on the same page. Without that unity, it's beyond a challenge to run a successful and consistent company.

Most of us have no idea what the personal relations are like in the team, but there are more than enough reports to suggest Johnson is not taking direction from Knowles. If so, Knowles and Johnson need to get it fixed. If Johnson won't take direction, then Day needs to intervene.

Depending on recruiting relations and the room, I'm not sure how easy it is, but given the recruiting and management of the line, I'm pretty sure a lot of folks around here know what that conversation with Johnson sounds like.

It's simple shit. If you want LJ to rotate more, tell him to rotate more. If he refuses, then you remove his authority to be able to make those decisions. This is not hard at all but Ryan Day seems committed to making it as difficult as possible.
Well it's not that easy. LJ is uncooperative in the "rotating players" department, but he's more than efficient in the "sign 5 stars" department. A choice is going to have to be made at some point that will upset the "sign 5 stars" department for the betterment of the "put the right players on the field" department.

If only life and interpersonal relationships were as easy as putting out a post on a message board forum, eh?

Has he really been a big time recruiter the last few years though? I’d argue he’s struggled.

I don’t know where the less rotating comes from because it wasn’t long ago where we thought LJ rotated way too much. Now it’s the polar opposite.

The recruiting point is interesting, and obviously valid. I feel that losing LJs recruiting relations would have an immediate negative impact, likely losing a few recruits, maybe even some guys transfer out, but that's just educated speculation at this juncture.

What I know, is that pretty much any player, (whether he's a 5 star/top 100 prospect or not), will continue to perform like a three star on game day if the different levels of the defense aren't on the same page.
