Gregg Doyel Smears Tressel in Recruiting Article

CookyPuss

Screw Blue
I may be a week late but wow, recruiting is an ugly mess - CBSSports.com

If Doyle thinks recruiting is an ugly mess, wait until he sees his inbox after Buckeye fans read this trite.
It's hard to catch anybody cheating anymore, you know that? These slimy suckers are slippery -- and they're bold, too. Ohio State's Jim Tressel blatantly skated up to the edge of ethical badness last week, acting with such audacity that even the newspaper that broke the news had no idea it was breaking anything at all. And still won't unless it reads this here story.

So here you go, Cincinnati Enquirer. I'll give it to you in three easy steps:
1. On signing day, the story at the bottom right of the sports front page noted that OSU football coach Jim Tressel had signed the best receiver out of Cincinnati, DeVier Posey of La Salle High School.
2. On the same day, at the bottom left of that same page, a story noted that La Salle High was offering a school fund-raiser called "An Evening with Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel" on March 5. Tickets range from $60 for drinks and dinner to $175, which includes a photo op with Tressel as well as a football signed by the OSU coach.
3. Connect those dots. Tressel had never signed a player from La Salle until he got Posey. Likewise, Tressel has never donated an evening of his time to help raise money for La Salle until this year. And the "Evening with Jim Tressel" wasn't announced in the local newspaper until the day after Posey signed. Why? This is just a guess, but it's a good guess: If Posey had backed out of his commitment to Ohio State, Tressel wasn't going to have an evening with La Salle.

The NCAA won't bother to look into the Tressel-Posey thing, I promise you, because the NCAA can't prove intent. And as any OSU fan would tell you, Tressel's intent was merely to help a high school 100 miles away, and that DeVier Posey's deliverance to Ohio State was a coincidence.

Tell Gregg your opinion

There's simply nothing to deter the media, and dickheads like Doyel, from doing shit like this. Nothing. And this tabloid journalism will continue. Trust me.

We all know the insinuation is bullshit. Hell, he probably even knows it's bullshit. But he prints it anyway, and his editors let him. Sorry folks, but all we can do about it is get mad.

I'm so sure that the timing had everything to do with sealing the deal with Posey and nothing to do with parlaying the excitement of Posey officially signing into the fund raiser.

BTW, what benefit would Posey get from this?

Never mind the fact that DeVier verballed on 13 Mar 2007, nearly a whole fucking year before NLOID, and that he was the 3rd out of 19 to verbal.

Or maybe it's possible that Tressel would like to establish a connection with the school for Ohio State's future benefit? I am rereading the thing and I still can't see what he is inferring. Tressel promised a fund raising dinner if they convinced their student to attend Ohio State? And to do this the school breaks him off a piece? This guy is in the wrong profession. And if he is from Ohio, as of today, he is in the wrong state.

MILI....dont let facts get you confused. JT is a dirtbag, bc Gregggg D(bag)OYLE says so.

My reply to him:

You state, "And as any OSU fan would tell you, Tressel's intent was merely to help a high school 100 miles away, and that DeVier Posey's deliverance to Ohio State was a coincidence." As an OSU fan, I'll also tell you that Posey verballed on Mar 13th, 2007, nearly a full year before NLOID. Your column is a total joke.

Can we add some comments to D-bag Doyle's article?
