Game Thread: Oklahoma 37, Baylor 30 (final, 2 OT)

didn't Baylor get their first Big 12 win this year? They may be on the way up  Oklahoma struggled against Kansas last week.... I'm surprised Sooner fans aren't throwing themselves off bridges by now.

Wow, what has happened to Oklahoma?

After they fucked up the past 2 NC pictures I'd ask the question were they ever really that good?

UT is obviously strong as hell this year but the past few years I think the Sooners have gotten waaayyy too much credit for beating up a weak B12 and having their more talented rivals number.

Tottally agree with you here. That is kind of like what TTech has been doing this year, until they met a real foe.

Also keep OU's struggles this year in mind when anyone wants to try and bust our balls about going 8-4 the year after we set the record and have 14 players drafted by the NFL.

They didn't lose that many and obviously haven't been able to replace them for shit. The year after a great class leaves gives wonderful insight into the overall depth and health of a program. So far I'd say its safe to say St. Stoops isn't the overall program builder JT is.

It was their first Big 12 road win that they got earlier this year. They had a few home conference wins since the Big-12 started play in 1996. They actually beat Texas in 1997 and aTm last year in Waco.

I am still surprised at how much Bomar has struggled. Adrian being out has obviously made it even more difficult but Oklahoma still got 173 yards on 30 carries from Gutierrez. 4 sacks and 2 INTs against Baylor is rough. It also seems like Oklahoma taking so many top defensive recruits who were borderline academically has caught up with them.

Wow, what has happened to Oklahoma?

Oklahoma lost some good players to graduation. They also had a top 5 recruiting class in 2003. Only 10 of those 23 players are still in the program.

I think what is happening to OU is instructive of how difficult it is too maintain a top caliber program today. You have to bring in quality players, retain them and develop them. You can miss a few - but not many.

I also think it underscores the job JT did after having 14 players drafted in one year. If you are going to keep 'reloading' and winning player development can't have any major hitches.
