Pair of current 2023 commits receive All-American jerseys

Always a theme for Ohio State’s commits, All-American contests each year are loaded with future Buckeyes. Some of the highest honors a prep player can receive, Ohio State has been well represented over the years at the various All-America activities, and this year is of course no different.

Whether it be the Under Armour edition or the All-American Bowl, 2023 Ohio State commits are taking part in their jersey ceremonies, and yesterday two more guys joined the ranks as the latest Ohio State players to crowed All-Americans.

First up, 2023 tight end commit Jelani Thurman received his Under Armour All-American jersey on Wednesday, and it’s just further proof to how big of a get Thurman is for this current cycle. A 6-foot-5, 230 pound Georgia native, Thurman has been committed since July, but as the lone tight end in the class, his addition is a key to the success of the staff’s offensive haul, especially after their the first tight end in the fold de-committed to go elsewhere.

The No. 104 player nationally, Thurman is the fourth ranked tight-end in the country, and the sixth best player in Georgia per the 247Sports Composite.

tonystarx You're 'bout as messed up as a football bat!

That is definitely some impressive route running and agility for a kid his size.

Kid looks like beast, but like with all OSU TEs, he's going to need to learn how to block. Reminds me of David Njoku from the Browns

Once he puts on 30 lbs and Mick gets him in the weight room he has the size and frame to be a great blocker. Just needs to learn the technique and develop the mindset of a Big Ten TE.

Wow, what a season! Kid seems like a steal from the south. If he learns to block and is willing, I can see him playing a big role in our passing game after what we have done with Stover. He actually reminds me a bit of OJ Howard with his length and athleticism, and catch passing ability. Whatever he resembles, Jelani Thurman looks very promising.

I don’t know why but I didn’t actually look at his recruiting profile until now; I had no idea he was rated that highly. Going into GA and snagging him is absolute robbery and testimony to this staff. Have no doubt he’ll develop well here and be successful. Great get.

There’s talk over on 11W board that the staff is growing concerned about his frequent visits to Auburn. I know it was said even before he committed that there would be a trip or two to Auburn that we shouldn’t be worried about. But apparently Birm is now even feeling concerned bcuz he said the kid isn’t trying to build relationships with OSU media, yet he is on the Auburn side. Couple that with the consistent trips to Auburn and the staff is starting to look around now too.

Eh. He's a TE. It'd be cool if we had Kyle Pitts stunting on fools.....but we just don't. I'll never sweat a TE flipping, especially during the Brian Hartline era.

This. So many people freak out about "we don't use the TE" while we stock the NFL with WR/RB..

And to piggy back what you all said, all the TE stats won’t matter if the guy can’t block. OSU could care less about Pitts type TEs, because they’re not used like WRs. As good as Stover has been, he’s still used primarily as a blocker, but he’s made some great plays to make it seem like OSU has used him a lot.
