Football players arrested

I thought that subject line might get your attention...

If you want to have a little twisted fun, go to Google and type in 'football players arrested' and check out the results. It will give you, in five minutes, a better perspective on NCAA football than ESPN has shown all year.

I stopped counting after the first 30 hits, but here are the programs that had players arrested per Google (as of 1/21/05):

San Jose State, South Florida, Florida, Notre Dame, Kansas State, West Virginia, Oregon State, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Clemson (a couple of top 30 hits for Mr. Bowden's southern gentlemen), NC State, Central Michigan, Arizona, The US Naval Academy, Indiana, Missouri, UNLV, Michigan State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri Western, Montana, Washington, Miami of Ohio, Colorado...

Given the nature of the Google search engine, some of these arrests go back as far as 2002, but it's still a valid measure. A lot of companies pay very good money to get their websites bumped up into Google's top 10. Marketing research indicates that 90% of Googlers never go past page 3.

Poor Albert, Louie and Ira didn't even make the top 30! We also know of other teams who finished out of the money, like South Carolina, Oklahoma, Marshall and others.

Dvorocek at Oklahoma nearly killed two guys -- two separate occasions, two different guys. Anger management issues, poor thing. Two Mountaineer alums robbed a grocery store. Violent assaults and rapes were the most common offenses. So tOSU's troubles look a lot different when put in perspective.

I am not excusing the problem kids at tOSU at all. Never would. But is 'fair and balanced' coverage too much to ask of ESPN? The answer's pretty obvious.

at one point i had a list of every arrest/charge from the start of the season, its buried somewhere inone of the huge troy smith threads...it was to be honest ridiculous and almost every team had multiple arrests/charged players

Mega,

You just don't get it do you? Haven't you seen and read in ESPiN the Magazine and on Sportscenter, AND during the Alamo Bowl that 14 Buckeyes have been arrested since Jim Tressel took over?

What's going on at Ohio State is FAR worse than what is going on at any other university in the country, so don't try and use logic and research to try and divert our attention. And please spare us the FACTS about arrests at other universities.

Let's keep our eye on the ball here people. Ohio State is the worst. Say it with me... :p

'Dripping with sarcasm!'

I see Penn State didn't even make the list. It might have been a little further down the list on the Google search. I read an article dated Nov of 2004 that said 12 Penn State players had been arrested in the last year alone. Some for serious felony charges. The funny thing is it doesn't get any press. I work with several diehard PSU fans at work and they didn't even know what I was talking about when I told them. It's sad to see so many kids screwing up and potentially wasting a golden opportunity. This stuff happens all over unfortunately. There's no telling how many players at other schools do things and campus police just let them off with a warning instead of arresting them (such as an "open container violation").
