Florida State Seminoles (official thread)

"TRON A SHIRT BITCH!"

I'm going to have to start saying that around the house. About the only thing better than my wife thinking I'm calling her a bitch is using words that she wouldn't understand (before calling her a bitch).

I haven't read this whole thread. Honestly, getting my reports done so my boss isn't in my office wondering where they are is more important to me these past couple of days than what Bobby Bowden is doing with one of his players. I saw that Paterno said something that has pissed people off, so it's probably something I that I agree with.

I said it before: I don't agree with a coach suspending a player based on an accusation of a crime or a breaking-of-rules, of any sort. I'm not saying that the coach should dismiss the situation until there is a guilty/not-guilty verdict. Instead, the coach basically needs to be the judge and jury of his own team. If he hears a report that one of his players sexually assaulted a 19-year old woman, in my opinion, he needs to decide whether he believes the woman or the player. And if he can't decide right now (maybe both have believable stories), then DON'T decide right now. He should decide when he's had the chance to hear from police, investigators, etc.

(I know that Bowden suspended the player for breaking team rules. That's an easier crime to prove, and less messy, in the short run.)

Remember the Kansas State quarterback? I forget his name. He was accused of something similar. The coach didn't suspend him, and everyone I saw on ESPN (except our buddy, Trev Alberts) thought it was an outrage. If I remember correctly, the accusation turned out to be bogus. The coach would have suspended the quarterback because some woman was trying to make news. (If I'm not remembering correctly, forget I brought this case up.)

I guess it just bothers me when people assume that a person is guilty based on an accusation. Remember the lady who accused MoC, Gamble, and a couple of other Buckeye football players of cheating their way through some African-American class? Were we as fast to assume tOSU's guilt in that case?

The View from Tallahassee

Here in Tallahassee the general feeling is:
  1. Nicholson was suspended for violating curfew
  2. Nicholson went to the police station immediately upon being informed of the charge and cooperated fully according to police.
  3. Nicholson has yet to be charged
They draw a lot of inferences from the last two. Whether or not the inferences are warranted is something in which I am not even interested. They can speculate all they want.

Just thought you might like to know.

There's a huge difference between temporarily suspending someone pending investigation (which happens in a lot of occupations, such police, fire protection, etc.) and vilifying an 80-year-old codger for mumbling about something he didn't have all the facts on...the only thing he could be "guilty" of is not also acknowledging the alleged (key word, "alleged") victim.

JoePa's not yet 80 - but he is a few days closer to 80 than you are to 50. :wink2:

It was El Robison III, and it happened just before the fiesta bowl after K-State upset Oklahoma in the B12 CG and consequently sent Texas back to the fucking Holiday bowl for the 3rd year in a row or something crazy like that. Really a shitty time all around.

Also, I don't know what to think about "TRON" my shirt. At first I laughed but then i felt sad that I could see where the confusion came from. It in fact says Iron My Shirt Bitch.

Was it Robison or Roberson? For some reason, Roberson sticks out in my mind. Was I right in that nothing ever came out of that sandwich?

My .02

-Nicholson was suspended for violating curfew and already having 2 run ins with the cops this year alone. Completely warranted and neccessary suspension regardless of how the assualt charges go.

-Joe Pa's statements come from a guy who gets to see the athletes perspective of the all too common sports groupie. Does that sound insensitive? Yep. Does it happen A LOT? Yep, Yep. After a full investigation if an athlete is truely guilty of rape/sexual assualt etc then fry his fucking ass, nothing makes me sicker. However, untill that final verdict is in I give these type of charges a huge grain of salt no matter how much I dislike the team or players involved. Too many times we get the Kobe or Elle Roberson situation where it ends up all he is guilty of is getting involved with a psycho bitch.

Most guys have had a casual fling turn into drama with the psycho hose beast package, now think how bad it would be if you were a well known athlete/rich and they were actually looking for you.

At long last I now realize why women never chased me. It's nice to no longer think it was because of my lousy looks, dull wits, and lack of charm. :tongue2:

it was roberson, sorry and yes, nothing ever came out of it. i think they setteled out of court

..... soo... what was the settlement..?

the thing i find so obsurd in all of this is how much a person's title dictates the value of their opinion. or in this case, inconherent rambling. people were appauled by what he said? did he actually say anything...? after reading the quotes it looks like he might have nodded off a few times mid thought there. he said absolutely nothing that you wouldn't hear in the midst of any political conversation at your family reunion. im not sure why any would hold joe pa to a higher standard than their own parents/relatives.

This is a bit interesting:

I'm excited you're looking at Florida State. [FSU President] T.K. Wetherell and I are friends. When you come to Tallahassee again, let's hook up with each other.

— Jeb Bush

That was the text message, as Rolle remembered it, from the state's governor. Rolle said it hit his cellphone the same weekend he hit Florida State for a recruiting visit. Two weeks ago, after sifting through 80-plus scholarship offers, Rolle enrolled at FSU

The whole article is available here: http://www.ajc.com/uga/content/sports/uga/stories/0131recruits.html

(btw - this isn't political or about only this situation, it is about the current world of recruiting in general)
