2023 FL DE Damon Wilson (Georgia Signee)

It’s pretty clear that Ohio State is doing their last heavy lifting in the 2023 recruiting class along the defensive line with just a few spots up for grabs. Now set with interior guys in this cycle after the commitment of Kayden McDonald on Monday, all eyes are on the defensive end position and the big three of Damon Wilson, Keon Keeley and Matayo Uiagalelei. Each has long been in the thick of things, but time is starting to run down on their uncommitted statuses with the December signing period getting closer.

The Buckeyes, thanks to position coach Larry Johnson, are in solid position with all three of the top talents, but odds are Ohio State isn’t going to land all of them. Still, with momentum riding at a steady rate for all three candidates, crunch time is on until each of them make the final call, and hopefully two or even one of these elite edge rushers pick the good guys in the end.

In this regard, the latest on Damon Wilson gives way to his recruitment coming to an end in the near future. In an interview with Director of Recruiting for 247Sports, Steve Wiltfong, Wilson talks about his upcoming visit to the Georgia versus Tennessee matchup this weekend, and how that visit will wrap up the remaining trips he has set. In addition to speaking on the three finalists of Alabama, Georgia, and Ohio State, Wilson made it known that he will, “probably make it after this Georgia visit” in terms of a final decision.

With Georgia the biggest threat to Ohio State, the Buckeyes are hoping to really stay out in front here as the 247Sports Crystal Ball suggests. At any rate, at least a decision looks to be coming rather soon. If Ohio State can win this one, the Buckeyes would be adding the No. 19 player nationally and the fifth best edge rusher in the 2023 class per the 247Sports Composite grades. Make no mistake about it either, the play this past weekend from J.T. Tuimoloau was not only seen by Wilson, but is playing a role in why Ohio State is so highly thought of by defensive linemen.

Visiting UGA for the Tennessee game this weekend.

Certainly not ideal.

Agree, not ideal but….
Luke and Ryan will visit at Uga this weekend.
As much grief as the captain of the Buckeye recruits received for attending this game, he is strategically positioned to stay in the mix with recruits who could be swayed by UGA pressure to verbal.

The rumor around Wilson’s recruitment is that Ohio State is starting to emerge as the leader and that the Buckeyes could be the team to beat but Georgia is the other school at or near the top - and the Dawgs never go down easily. Getting the Venice, Fla., four-star defensive end back on campus could make things really interesting especially if he sees a dominant performance from the Bulldogs’ edge rushers and UGA can find a way to slow down Tennessee’s high-potent offense.

DAMON WILSON
In recent months, it sure seems like the three widely-known five-star defensive ends have all had their turn taking over the spotlight atop the Heat Check. So it should be no surprise that after more twists and turns in October, Damon Wilson has regained the top spot for November.

While Wilson took an official visit to Georgia last month, a few Crystal Ball projections from 247Sports were cast in Ohio State’s direction after Ryan Day and Larry Johnson visited Wilson in Florida during the Buckeyes' off week.
The momentum has shifted back to Ohio State in the final stretch before the Early Signing Period. Still, the five-star defensive end may take another visit to Georgia this weekend for the Bulldogs’ massive matchup with Tennessee. Wilson remains undecided on a school, and it’s unclear when exactly a decision is expected. But Ohio State has done well enough to believe it is the frontrunner to land Wilson, even with a potential visit to Georgia looming.

November 26, 2022. An incredible statement day for Buckeyes and recruits, families and neighbors. The aftermath will be glorious

I have never wanted to beat that team up north so badly, just the on the field result itself. But it really could be big for recruiting as well. Does anyone know if Wilson is signing during the early signing period? It looks like that is December 21 this year, so still over a month to go if so.

Trying not to go on a rant about SCUM, they are playing very similar to last year. Now they have a more versatile running QB. We are still struggling to run the ball, which is a big concern. The one thing we are doing better this year is our defense. As much as I hate to say it this is going to be a nail biter. Great for people to watch who are not a fan of either team lol. For us fans what gives us an ulcer haha

Well, if your wish comes true cdiddy, then Christmas will have indeed come early. Not outside the realm of reality, however. Methinks that tOSU has shown enough improvement (and Coach J says he's staying), that Santa might grant your (and Buckeye Nation's) wish.

Such a huge game that I think we'll have kids like Wilson that are very much realistic targets show up, and also less realistic guys like Downs. But you get each and every one on campus for that game and see what happens, a game like that is where guys can see themselves in the S&G playing in The Game. I think Wilson is on the verge of a commitment to OSU (possibly silent) but if he makes in out here November 26th, that could seal the deal.
