Lakeland (FL) Lake Gibson High School

Athlete
6-1
170 lbs
Class of 2023

CORMANI MCCLAIN
McClain is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect out of Lakeland (Florida) High School, the same program that houses another Ohio State prospect in the 2022 cycle, five-star defensive tackle Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, whom the Buckeyes have offered.

“He’s going to be a five-star,” Lake Gibson head coach Robert Paxia told 247Sports on Thursday. ”He’s got all the skills, he transitions in and out of breaks really well. All the stuff you need comes natural to him. He stated nine games for us at DB and had nine interceptions.”

I don't have to ask what position now! That is a sick stat line :ohno:

Five-Star Plus+ CB Cormani McClain visiting 5 schools in the near future

Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson Five-Star Plus+ cornerback Cormani McClain is really enjoying his recruiting process, but he is not close to a decision yet.

“I’m still looking for a home,” he said Friday at the Under Armour All-American Game practice, where he was watching and supporting his friend and high school teammate Sam McCall.

But he is going to be looking for his future home soon.

McClain told On3’s Jeremy Johnson in Orlando that he will be visiting Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma in the coming weeks.
.
.
.
Earlier in the season, McClain released a top five of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and Ohio State. He told On3’s Chad Simmons that the Gators were the leader of the pack at the time.

It now appears Florida has dropped out of that top five, as well as the Seminoles, leaving the Hurricanes as the only in-state school in his top schools.

“Miami is like home,” McClain said. “Great relationship with the coaches, great atmosphere.

Cormani McClain is the No. 4 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 cornerback and No. 1 player from the state of Florida.

Exhausting trying to keep up with these top 5 lists...Chad Simmons says McClain now lists Bama, Florida, and Ohio St. from the above list and has added
Georgia. Hard to believe he dropped the other two fla. schools without taking officials.

McClain had trouble with his flight this past weekend and couldn't make it to the scrimmage. He says he will try to visit Ohio St. in the future. Not very promising story when practically every other South Florida Express recruit made it, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Lots of things could've happened.

There were significant numbers of flight issues / cancellations in FL over the weekend.

However, on Thursday it was questionable if any of the South Florida Express players would make it. Those players were not all scheduled to travel on the same flight, they actually had a number of different flights among the entire group. But on Thursday South Florida Express coach Brett Goetz received word that all of the flights had either been postponed or canceled. Among the airports involved were Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville and Orlando. Big problem - a problem that had Goetz and the other South Florida Express leaders scrambling.

But Goetz and the other group leaders were able to come through in a big way and get things rearranged and done, and all but McClain made it to Columbus. Perhaps the player that had the most difficult time was Tate who was on a field trip. He had to get permission to leave the field trip, hurry back to IMG and pack his bag, and then make it to the Sarasota/Bradenton airport in time to catch a Thursday evening flight to Columbus. The others also made it to Ohio State over the next 24 hours plus and they all were able to watch the Buckeyes’ practice/scrimmage on Saturday.
