Doesn't it bother you guys

That OSU had all those draft choices and not a stronger title run?? Or with the Clarett situation (and the effect he had on the running game) do you think the team did as good as can be expected??

ND had a few years like that in the early 90's that still tick me off....

We were 1 win away from playing for the title again. I'm not just talking smack here, I'm not sure how much closer than that you get. We could have been more dominating in our wins I suppose, but any closer, and we would have been in the game.

Instead we played and won a BCS bowl game.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't have liked to play Oklahoma or LSU (either of the deserving #2 teams at the point according to the BCS) for the title. But that's where "stronger" would have put us.

--edit--

Basically, what Tibor said... Am I missing something with the question?

--yet another edit--

Maybe I did miss part of the question. No, I don't think the team did well as we could have expected, even without Clarett. I don't think we should have lost to a clearly inferior Wisconsin squad. And had the D shown up earlier, I think the Michigan game should have looked a lot different. A win? Who knows, but much closer. Not that we weren't within a TD there at one point late in the game, with the ball.

I know OSU played in a BCS game and was a contender! NO DISRESPECT INTENDED...

My point was that (like I said with ND) years from now will last years team naw at you a little from what could have been or do you think they got as far as they could??

As far as ND goes that clip on the Rocket run back agaisnt Colorado and a missed interception in the BC game! Those would have given ND 3 titles in around 5 years.

Also, the fact that FSU got the title (93) even though ND beat FSU on the field......

I'd like to say a top 5 finish with a BCS bowl win bothered me, but I'd have to kick my own ass. I can say the Wiscy loss with the issues that surrounded it bothered me. I can say the way we lost to Michigan bothered me. But the season? No.

Yes, obviously I'd have liked to have played one of the two aforementioned schools for the title. That's an easy one. Does it bother me? See above.

I'm not sure if I would feel right complaining about the last two seasons. I still get upset thinking about our defense laying an egg up north but it's hard to find fault in a team that won 25 of 27 games and a National Title.

The other teams are on scholarship to, and therefore have a lot of talent as well.

I am happy with the National Title we got out of this group. Many of those draft choices are probably a long shot to stay in the league more than 3 years, and may have not been drafted had we not won a national championship.

It also is key positions like QB and RB that we didn't have the greatest talent at last season. Our offensive line, although a lot were drafted, did not work well together as a unit.

No I am not disappointed with there performance. I am more diappointed with other classes.

With our first string RB out all season, and the OL not jellin'... I'd say we had a good season last year. The loss to Wisky sucked! The way we played against scUM sucked! However, the guys were one win away from the title game, and with all the media attention on the MoC issue, I'd say our guys fought through the season, and won the bowl game.

scUM straight up smoked us, and we deserved the loss to wisky after Turbo's incident...

I think winning all but two games the last two years is very good, taking into consideration the lack of offense at times, the off the field issues of last year and the underacheiving o-line, all of those guys represented OSU well and I look forward to watching them in the pros. It was a great run and now lets start another one with this new group of players!

Gee, by that rationale, Miami should've won the last five national titles. Every year is different, and every team is different. Number of NFL Draft picks or number of number of 1st Rounders doesn't equate to, "We should win the National Title every year."

If that was the case, then John Cooper would be regarded as the greatest coach of all time.

How can anyone complain about 25-2 and a National Title from this lastest Draft class? And lets be honest: if not for the immaturity of a certain unnamed TB, we'd be talking 27-0 with two rings.

Actually, its an OSU tradition. In 1960 OSU won the national basketball championship when Lucas and Havlicek were Sophs. Then missed the next two years.

In 1968 we won the NC with a team that was predominantly Sophs, then missed the next two years.

These guys won their NC two years ago. I have no further demands of them.

Further, I would still argue that these guys over achieved. The idea of having 14 guys drafted is not a measure of talent on a team - it has to do with being senior loaded as much as it does being talent loaded. Look at the top programs in the country and 90% of their starters get drafted. In 2001 OSU went 7-5. They graduated six senior off of an anemic Offense and they were all drafted.

The Browns traded their number two pick to move up one spot in the first round. I think that was silly, but it reflects how much weight is placed on those top tier players. There is not a team out there who wouldn't trade 10 picks from the second day for one of the top ten picks in the draft.

If you want to talk about under achievers post your question on the Miami board.

While Wisky and scUM were heartbreakers last year, it was still a fine run, as has been stated above. Regarding your question as whether last year will 'gnaw at me' for years to come, I'd say no way. Most of us are still reveling in our NC from two seasons ago, and following up with a very respectable season, with a convincing will over the Big 12 champ in a BCS game was a great way to finish.

However, I do have a few seasons from the late '90s that gnaw at me... :ohwell:
