DE C.J. Hicks (National Champion)

Zion Hradu >>>>
It will be nice to have a fresh and healthy Hicks for the game in Indy and the playoff run.

Can’t convince me he wouldn’t at least be helpful in obvious passing downs to spell the guys. With Zion Grady and Atkinson being solid I think the playoff depth at edge looks a lot more promising (assuming we get there, I don’t take games for granted)

He can play in the playoff without burning the redshirt. Thats the beauty of this playoff system

I wonder if we’ll see him moving forward now that his redshirt is secured.

Looks like he’s been officially activated and it won’t count against his RS.

This is really great depth for the team. He may not be Caden Curry or Kenyatta Jackson, but he doesn’t need to be that over the next month - just like Curry didn’t need to be Jack Sawyer last year. Hicks is an experienced player that has the physical abilities and intelligence to wreck an offense while the starters are getting a breather. Would also be a nice sub in terms of size and ability for Reese. This could tee him up for a great start in 2026.

(Sorry for the paywall)

I have a feeling that Mendoza will remember him following tomorrows game.

I am hopeful, for him and for us, but skeptical here. He was ahead of Reese in camp last year and got passed by, moved to DE, and then redshirted. I hope it’s all for the best but his hype to reality ratio has to be one of the most expansive gaps I’ve seen. Bam Childress wasn’t nearly as highly rated coming in and at least had good spring games.

In fairness, CJ had some impactful plays against Texas….he created multiple pressures on Manning.

I don’t think he plays with the same speed as an Arvell, or power of a Kenyatta Jackson, but I could see situations where they turn him loose on a defensive rush on obvious pass downs, or possibly ask him to be a QB spy to utilize his athleticism.

We’ll see….its nice to have extra depth though.

Yeah he looked like a pure speed rush guy to start the season
