LATTIMORE ISLAND. Think about this: at this point two years ago, Marshon Lattimore wasn't even sure he was going to be a starter at Ohio State. Now, he's a top-five corner in the National Football League.

    From Pro Football Focus:

    5. Marshon Lattimore

It’s fitting that Lattimore is grouped with White here, because the two of them are likely to be compared to one another for every subsequent season after their success as rookies. Like White, Lattimore didn’t miss a beat entering the NFL, and allowed a passer rating of just 45.3 on throws into his coverage, the third-lowest mark in the league. Coming off a season where he was our fourth-highest graded cornerback in the NFL at 90.5, there’s no reason to expect anything other than another big year for Lattimore in 2018.

Lattimore was unbelievable in his debut season. He routinely shut down opponents' top receivers, won both the AP and PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards, and intercepted a pass with his ass.

Marshon Lattimore has observation for defense first half
by Gary VanDyke | Saints Correspondent | Fri, Aug 10th 8:57am EDT

Sean Payton was not happy with the team's defensive performance in the first half of the first preseason contest. Marshon Lattimore stated the defense is adjusting to having new players in the lineup, including veteran defensive backs Kurt Coleman and Patrick Robinson. It also wasn't helping that the unit played without top defensive ends Cameron Jordan and Alex Okafor. (nola.com)

Marshon Lattimore flashes lockdown skills: What happened at Saints training camp Day 12

Marshon Lattimore has had a relatively quiet camp so far but he brandished his Defensive Rookie of the Year credentials in the Saints' practice on Monday.

Lattimore locked down Ted Ginn Jr. so thoroughly on his pass route that during 7-on-7 drills that the veteran receiver actually grew frustrated and broke off his route mid-stride.

Fifteen minutes later, Lattimore did it again. Each time quarterback Drew Brees was forced to eat the ball and not deliver a pass.

I'm not sure I've ever seen that happen before, and Lattimore did it twice in one practice.

The second-year cornerback from Ohio State was beaten rather soundly by Michael Thomas for a couple of nice catches later in the practice.

New Orleans Saints 2018 roster rankings: No. 4 Marshon Lattimore

Cornerback Marshon Lattimore at Saints Minicamp: raw footage

    By Larry Holder

We're ranking the New Orleans Saints' top players for the seventh consecutive offseason. We'll publish a new player each weekday as we inch closer to training camp.

Seven players from last year's list no longer reside on the team's roster: No. 7 Kenny Vaccaro, No. 9 Willie Snead, No. 10 Zach Strief, No. 11 Adrian Peterson, No. 13 Nick Fairley, No. 14 Delvin Breaux, No. 15 Dannell Ellerbe. And a handful from last year's list didn't make the 2018 version.

That's actually a positive for the Saints.

It's the first time in a few years where I struggled to cut down the list to 20 viable candidates. As opposed to the last couple of offseasons where I nearly couldn't find enough capable players to field a top 20 list.

Predicting Nos. 1 and 2 on the 2018 version should be no brainers. The rest of the list should make for a healthy debate:

    No. 4 Marshon Lattimore

    Last year's rank: 16

    Fan composite ranking: 4

    Season: 2; Age: 22; Height: 6-0; Weight: 192

Remember when some skepticism existed around the health of Lattimore's hamstring? Remember when the Saints nearly drafted quarterback Patrick Mahomes instead of the then-Ohio State cornerback?

    Me neither.

One of the best cornerbacks in the NFL fell right into the Saints' lap with the 11th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Lattimore immediately became a starter and the team's top defensive back at the onset of last season. The corner's ability to lock down one side of the field quickly came to fruition. It led him to the league's Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl honors.

The Saints defensive back led the team with five interceptions, tying him for fifth in the NFL. Lattimore also finished tied for sixth in the league with 18 pass defenses.

Striking it rich with Lattimore should pay dividends for the Saints for many years to come.

Marshon Lattimore on 2018 expectations: 'We're out for more this year'

SKULL SESSION: RECRUITING THROUGH THE STORM, MARSHON LATTIMORE'S UPCOMING GAUNTLET AND JIM HARBAUGH'S VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

    TRIED AND TESTED.
Marshon Lattimore had probably the best rookie season of any Urban Meyer-produced Buckeye, but he's going to be put through an absolute gauntlet to start his second season.

    From TheAdvocate.com:

If there are any questions about the authenticity of the standout’s rookie season, his credentials will be put through an extensive and thorough examination over the next month. His first four games will feature matchups against (Mike) Evans, Cleveland’s Jarvis Landry (or possibly Josh Gordon), Atlanta’s Julio Jones and the Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr.

Going through that list of receivers is like picking up a controller to play “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!” and having to fight Tyson every single stage. There's no getting into the swing of things against Glass Joe and Piston Honda. It will not be easy, but Lattimore is ready for it.

“You want to be the best. You got to play the best and be good against the best,” Lattimore said. “I measure myself against them, of course. If they’re the best in the league and I’m shutting them down, that has to say something about my game.”

Lattimore was legitimately one of the most dominant players in the league last year as a rookie, playing a position that's all about experience.

I don't think they'll be much drop off this year. It's not like he wasn't having success against some of these same guys last year.
