Apparently he's an early enrollee and is now on campus:

Buckeyes early enrollees begin arriving in Columbus
Ohio State just played in the Rose Bowl last week.

But a part of next season is already starting. Some Buckeyes early enrollees began arriving to begin their Ohio State careers this weekend. Safety Kye Stokes was one of the first to touch down in Columbus on Friday, and he’s now officially with the program after signing in December.

Stokes is one of at least 10 signees from the 2022 recruiting class that will be enrolling early to get a head-start on their careers with the Buckeyes, a strategy that has worked out for plenty of players before them who wanted to try their hand at earning early playing time.

So that process is already underway. Next season is, in a way, already here. The early enrollees are becoming part of the program just a week after last season ended.

“How they approached the process, it just felt different,” Stokes told Eleven Warriors earlier this month. “They kept their promises. They told me they were going to watch my film and be back to me by Monday at 11:00. And that Monday, (running backs coach Tony Alford) called me at 9:00. So it was just the fact that they held up to their word.”

The Malik Hooker comparisons are on point! Not going to be able to keep Kye off the field.

Rangy ballhawk that pinpoints the ball. The size and the way he moves on the field to me drew a pretty obvious comparison. When he broke on the ball Stroud threw almost perfectly, you saw everything you want in a safety. If they'll bite, they bite as a pup, and Kye bit yesterday hard. He's going to be fun to watch.

KYE STOKES’ STOCK SOARING AFTER FRESHMAN SAFETY’S FIRST SPRING AT OHIO STATE

130439_h.jpg

Going into the spring, most people probably wouldn’t have picked Stokes to be a top candidate to play immediately as a true freshman. After all, he was the third-lowest-ranked Ohio State signee in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2022 class, and he entered a crowded safety room that is set to have 12 players on scholarship this season even after Bryson Shaw entered the transfer portal.

“WHAT YOU WORRY ABOUT WITH A YOUNG GUY IS THE BRIGHT LIGHTS, AND HE LOOKED LIKE IT WAS NO PROBLEM FOR HIM, AND HE REALLY STEPPED UP.”– JIM KNOWLES ON KYE STOKES’ SPRING GAME

Stokes delivered in a big way.

Playing the adjuster position as the second defender into the game at that spot behind starter Ronnie Hickman, Stokes showed impressive playmaking range throughout the spring game as he recorded nine tackles – tied with redshirt freshman safety Andre Turrentine for the second-most among all Ohio State defenders (behind linebacker Tommy Eichenberg) – and made a pair of impressive pass breakups that led to defensive stops late in the first half.

Back in February, Stokes said he was willing to be patient and wait his turn as a freshman if he had to, but he was confident he was capable of making an impact right away if given the opportunity.

“If I do what I'm supposed to, I feel like I can be on the field,” Stokes said. “And I feel like I can have a big contribution to the team.”

With the momentum Stokes has built this spring, it’s starting to look like Stokes will be on the field and making a big contribution sooner than later.
