S Josh Proctor (Official Thread)

DB Josh Proctor

The explosive nature of Josh Proctor’s hit during the final play of the Big Ten title game on Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan is enough to resonate all offseason and get Ohio State excited for the future. Proctor has long been talked about as somebody who has a knack for getting his hands on the ball and creating turnovers in practice. He dropped a few interceptions and caught one last season. Now as the primary safety to replace Jordan Fuller, Proctor will need to improve and build off the positive momentum gained from last year, using it for a huge offseason ahead.

Josh Proctor will turn heads for Buckeyes
Now in his third year with the program, Josh Proctor will emerge as a playmaker and a key member of the Ohio State defense. Proctor has been waiting his turn behind Jordan Fuller, who has been a reliable fixure in the Buckeyes secondary for the past three seasons. And With the departure of all of last year’s starting secondary except for Shaun Wade, and the dismissals of Amir Riep and Jahsen Wint, the Buckeyes defensive backfield is suddenly not very deep and the least experienced unit on the team. Now is Proctor’s time to shine. The prediction here is he will step-up to the task and excel under the direction of Kerry Coombs.

On the final play of Ohio State’s 34-21 Big Ten championship game win to cap off a perfect 13-0 season, Proctor officially introduced himself, and somebody had to be on the wrong end of that moment. It was Coan, who scrambled out of the pocket from the 10-yard line and made a dash for the pylon, trying to tack on a late score.

Proctor wasn’t having it.

SAFETY JOSH PROCTOR
Really, the entire secondary was harmed more than any other position group due to the cancellation of spring practices. But Proctor might have felt it more than most.

He’s expected to step up as the starting safety to replace Jordan Fuller this fall, yet he wasn’t full-go when the spring opened, meaning he didn’t get much out of the limited practice time. If he had a full spring, he would’ve played a heck of a lot of snaps both under Coombs and with the first-teamers. He’ll now have to wait until August to do so.

Who was the most important defense player last year? Well. I'll say it was either Chase Young (pass rusher extraordinaire) or Jeff Okudah (shut down corner). Josh Proctor might very well fill a need; however, the most important defensive player will be who ever steps up to become one of the "impact players" on defense. At this point in time I'm thinking Harrison, Cooper, Browning, and/or Wade, etc.
