Id still think that Ian Reed is still pretty elite as the 25th best OL in the country. And I’d take him in a heartbeat with Alinen. And then be done at OL

Agree with both of you! Its not a secret that our last OL coach left the cupboard quite bare as far as depth, and I seriously pray that some of those plan C(or even D) guys he landed pan out some to even make a 2 deep. Frye has his work cut out, and I think that 2024 could be where he has better success because I don't think he was after anyone OSU caliber at UCLA. At least coaches like: Elliano and Knowles had OSU level targets before they came aboard.

Alinen would be a fantastic addition and I've said this before, gives us the option to take a sniper approach for a 5th. A 5th would be ideal but not if it's a reach. Bisontis and other OL of that ilk would be ushered in imo, but the jury is out on a lot of the perceived reach OL that are not exiting the program like for example the DB position. Who knows, maybe Frye likes what he sees from some of those young Bucks. All I know right now is I'm feeling really, really good about this OL class right now and think we're primed to finish out strong whether it's 4 or 5 OL. And Alinen is one of the more intriguing prospects to be part of that.

If we were to reach there is an interesting prospect from something called KIPP hs in Columbus.

He is 6’8”” 340.

i can’t find the highlight clip or even remember his name.

He is raw but huge and pretty athletic.

i didn’t know KIPP existed before last week.

We've done nothing but reach in the last 3 classes! "Raw but huge and pretty athletic" describes Michalski, Toutant and Henry. No thanks on anymore projects at OL. OSU shouldn't have to take projects

Also Dewand. I'm not ready to say that Michalski or Henry won't be able to play at this level.
Listen I don't know if this belongs in this thread.
I agree there have been too many OL reaches recently.
My point is if we end up with 4 or 5 OL that are tier 1 highly rated, a flyer on the last one with upside isn't out of the question.
Especially in the portal era where kids who can't play at this level will flush out and not tie up a scholarship for 5 years.
Hell the way NIL is going I'm not sure a limit on scholarships will prevent schools from getting kids they want.

Dewand is an outlier, the rest of the starters were all highly rated.
And why do we need to take a flyer? Bama doesnt, UGA doesn't! I don't see a reason to give participation trophies if we're trying to win a National Championship. Let schools like IU, Cincinnati and Illinois take flyers, Ohio State should be pursuing the best of the best at every position with no exceptions. Now if these kids want to transfer to OSU after working out the kinks at a lower tier school then I'm all for it.

Both of those schools definitely take what most would call projects.

In the 2022 class, UGA signed 3 OT’s. The highest rated one they signed was ranked 359 nationally and was turned away by OSU.

Bama, while they rarely ever go without signing a top OT, definitely signs lower rated guys too. They signed an OT ranked 393 nationally last year. In 2020, they only signed two OT’s. One rated in the 340’s and the other in the 390’s.

Obviously there are other factors that go into those signings like Bama signing two or three top 40 OT’s in 2019 so they probably felt better about taking those guys a year later, but they do take a few guys that may be raw and take longer to develop.

Good points, but what makes those programs different is the blatant over signing done. They can take flyers on lower rated players and let them develop because several other players will be forced out.
Also, those 2 programs sign so many highly rated players that they can afford to take flyers, OSU hasn't had the same OL recruiting success. We're not at the point where we can just keep taking flyers.

(Coach Frye) is really straight forward and an honest guy. He loves football and really knows what he is doing. He’s a good teacher. (Coach Ryan Day) is a good coach and great person. He is really welcoming. He has good values.

“I watched the O-line the whole time except when they were in their team sessions. I watched the drills. That is where you can see how coach Frye coaches. I really liked the way he teaches.”
