A hidden part of the capacity issue, at least at UPenn, is that in the spring they stopped all electives to accommodate the surge. This time, they know they can't afford to do that (financially) so COVID surge is competing with normal business of the hospital.

Might be anecdotal but if Penn is seeing it, so are others I would think.

And normal business is heading into the flu season as well, which can present it's own uptick/surge.

Covid precautions for Thanksgiving look like a mixed bag of effects. That ain't gonna get it done.
Meanwhile one of our friends decided to spend the rest of the pandemic on Maui. So she can go swimming every day!

My cousin is on a respirator in Columbus. A close friend on one here in Cape Town. We all know what we have to do to help ourselves and others have the best chance to survive this. Sad that no other country in the world has failed so badly at containing this as the United States. Something I never thought I'd see.
