Doctor says "Hey, this works with my patients"

Other Doctors: "Where are the double-blind studies"

Patients of 1st Doctor: "What do you think he is, the Mayo clinic? It worked for all of us"

OK, admittedly the first doctor calls it a "silver bullet". He should know better than to say that. But I have seen the "not invented here" tendency in the healthcare industry (I work for a medical device supplier). I do have to wonder how much of that is going on here.

Above are the short videos that give both sides. Here is an interview with him in which he claims that the low death rates in Japan, Taiwan, etc are because those countries are also using inhaled steroids.

Interesting. IMBSO, the logic for why this would work makes sense and it's hard to ignore patient testimony. His last claim gives my pause just because I think that if this treatment was known to be working really well in Jaoan and Taiwan that that would have been trumpeted to the heavens and quickly adopted everywhere.

Agreed

Many good things have had bad proponents, so there might be something to this.

But his claims devoid of citation (which you noted), the fact that he shows every sign of someone seeking notoriety, and his sky-high rhetoric do his cause no favors.

Way too early to say there’s nothing here; way, way too early to say this is the answer. Based only on the way such things usually go (certain cancer treatments for example) this will be part of the answer for some people. How much of the answer for how many people remains to be seen.

Read an interesting local piece that says the latest township 'surge' is a result of much more refined contact tracing. Positives came from two large BBQ gatherings and they traced everyone in attendance and who they contacted after... so logically we will see 'spikes' with amplified and robust tracing in place.

. There is a lot of talk about using cortico-steroids to suppress the immune system over-reaction to Covid.

The results were announced Tuesday and the British government immediately authorized the drug's use across the United Kingdom for coronavirus patients like those who did well in the study. Researchers said they would publish results soon, and several independent experts said it's important to see details to know how much of a difference the drug, dexamethasone, might make and for whom.

But “bottom line is, good news,” said the United States’ top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci. “This is a significant improvement in the available therapeutic options that we have.”

seems odd to call it an improvement in the available treatments

dexamethasone has been available and has been used for months. Same appears to be true of the inhaled steroids

What’s new, and the main difference between the treatments, is that double-blind, peer-reviewed studies in the uk have recently been published, and they prove dexamethasone to be a positive factor in survival. All that we appear to have for the inhaled steroids is anecdotes.

What is important to understand is that doctors are not required to wait for the studies to be done. The FDA allows off-label use at a doctor’s discretion, they just forbid the drug companies from advertising the off-label use. That’s a vast oversimplification, but for this discussion it’s good enough to be getting on with

Well, our fucking yard gnome of a governor just extended back out to date of opening the island back up to out-of-state visitors from Aug 1st to Sep 1st due to the spikes is cases in some mainland areas. The tourist industry was ramping up preparations for increased business within less than three weeks only to have the fucktard pull the rug out from under them.

Ige delays plan to reopen tourism until Sept. 1 amid COVID-19 surge on the mainland
