    Buckeneye I lead, you follow.

Depends on what you view as a "starter"?

To me, a nickel is still a starter. So under that criteria, I do remember Malcolm a handful of games in 05'.

True but Denzel did leap some folks here and found a way to stand out from his peers at the same position who were more highly touted than he. Speaks volumes how the staff feels about him. When/If Banks or Brown return, Burke will still be getting a lot of playing time for a freshman.

Granted — but whenever a 3rd true freshman eventually starts an opener on D for the Bucks, let’s hope Burke proves good enough that there’s no need for caveats.

    11W's snap counts:

    Denzel Burke: 63
    Ryan Watts: 49
    Demario McCall: 15
    Lejond Cavazos: 14

Because Cameron Brown was unavailable and Sevyn Banks was also held out of Thursday’s game with an injury, Burke and Watts were Ohio State’s starting cornerbacks against Minnesota. In his first game as a Buckeye, Burke played the most snaps of any Ohio State cornerback and by far the most snaps of any true freshman in the season opener.

McCall, who moved to defense this offseason after playing running back and wide receiver for the first five years of his Ohio State career, and Cavazos, who was sidelined by an injury for his freshman year, also rotated in off the bench and made their debuts at cornerback for the Buckeyes on Thursday.

    Entire article:

Just sayin': I agree that Denzel Burke is going to be a "good one"; however, would Burke have actually started if Sevyn Banks and Cameron Brown were available?

I really like this kids game... was our best corner and played the most of anyone. Insane that he was one of our lower rated CBs yet he's made the biggest impact. Reminds me of Malcolm Jenkins a ton.

Bestbuck36 Kyle Young man crush. Not ashamed

Watched it again and even when his guy made a play is was right there immediately and was a sure tackler. If he keeps improving and we get healthy, I'm all for Nickel being our base especially if they do some zone out of it and mix it up.

Well, our corners go up against the countries best wide receivers in every practice.

Following recruiting and seeing the results on the field sure is fun. Sure, Burke was a 4* but he was one of the more unheralded recruits in his class. I'll admit I forgot he was on the team and then boom, has a huge camp and starts Week 1. Not just starts, but looks pretty damn impressive overall. Denzel has a big career ahead of him here.

Agreed. Loved what I saw from him. And I still think JK Johnson ends up being the best CB in the class. Like having Okudah and Ward in the same class...Loaded

Just sucks for the big ten lol... our lower rated DB ends up a 1st year contributor and we still have our blue chip DBs.

Ohio State’s defensive coordinator fired out a two-letter word when asked if he ever imagined he’d start a true freshman at cornerback, let alone in a season-opening road game against a conference opponent, and he repeated it a second time to underscore the irregularity of the circumstance.

    “No,” Coombs said. “No.”
