Just noticed: According to 24/7 Felix Okpara plays at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy and is the 2nd best prospect in Tennessee. A high school teammate of his (Reggie Bass) is the #6 prospect and is committed to Illinois. The high school must have a pretty good basketball team:

We've made it work fairly well without a big like Okpara, but it hasn't been ideal, particularly when pretty much every B1G roster has at least one big like this guy. This class is looking really nice right now (from my very untrained eye when it comes to basketball). I was a little concerned for recruiting with the recent lack of tourney runs, but CH continues to recruit at a high level. Commitments like this one make me think we're going to get where we want to be very soon.

“I’ve had him since the spring,” Perry said. “I coached him in the spring and summer. He’s doing a great job. Obviously, his size and athleticism stand out. He causes problems. He protects the rim, he runs the floor and he can shoot a three and knock that down. He can score around the basket and catch lobs. He affects the game in a lot of different ways.
“He had a double-double (against Huntington Prep). He is an excellent rebounder. He’s a big help for us and we’re excited to have him. He just makes our defense even that much better, knowing he can anchor the back line. Our guys can extend because they don’t have to worry about their getting to the basket and being able to score.”

I am reminded that Ohio State was the second institution to divest in firms operating in South Africa during the Apartheid era and among the very first to reinvest after Nelson Mandela called for investment. Great to see so many first, second and third generation Africans now finding a place in Buckeye teams across sports.

Q&A WITH FELIX OKPARA:
Q: Your time is coming up to enroll at Ohio State. How excited are you to get your college career started?
Okpara: “I am really excited. I am ready to get to work.”
Q: You played on a very good team with some good players. You played in Ohio for one game and were on TV for several games as well. How did that year at Link Academy help with your development?
Okpara: “It helped me a lot. It helped me to try and be a team player. I played with a lot of good players there. It helped me to learn my role on a team. I also got stronger. I got bigger and I think it helped improve my IQ for the game.”
Q: What was it about Ohio State that swung it in your mind? Why was it the best place for you?
Okpara: “I feel like Coach Holtmann and the rest of the staff can develop my game and take me to the next level.”
Q: What are the things you feel like you excel at in basketball? Obviously, you can block shots and you have a very good defensive game and you are emerging as an offensive player. What is it about your game that stands out?
Okpara: “Like you said, defensively I can block shots and rebound. I can defend on the block and on the perimeter. Offensively, I know I have to crash the boards. I feel like I catch the ball pretty well on the low block. I’m still working on my post game. I’m working to get some consistency with my three-point game and my shooting.”
