I would say just link to it in a few visible places because:
1) it's their idea, it's close to stealing since its such a unique feature (however adding who is covering who into each thread would be ok, I just think something interactive would be plagiarism)
2) assignments will change a lot, and that will require a lot more upkeep that could be better spent on BP features/content, while letting them update their database

How is it stealing if it is free?? If anything, we are linking them to more web hits which then gives them more exposure. Also, assignments do not change frequently...

Which coach is responsible for which recruit is not premium info...they just made it convenient to look up. Us putting the prospects' recruiters as an additional data field is just another way to display it.

I wasn't sure what "adding to the database" meant. If we're just linking to each coach's links, that would be a great thing for them.

With how exhaustive our organization can be, it seemed like we could have been adding our own database of links to each player... much like they have now.

That sounds good. No problem with listing who recruits who, that's public info.

Its JMHO, and not my call at all, I just think we should avoid having a page where you can look at Luke Fickell, and who he is recruiting. There shouldn't be anything wrong with listing each recruit's assigned staff.

It just seems like we're borrowing one of their features... but I don't really know the ethics of that. So if you more experienced types feel that is fair game, then do so.
-----------

On a sidenote, one would think that they should have Hazell (arguably our best recruiter) and his #1 target, Hornsby, on that list.

There won't be a separate page, but you'll still be able to sort by recruiter (like all the other columns) and thus be able to see who each recruiter is responsible for.

I just didn't want to infringe on their idea, as its a little different than how we link and paste free articles (because in essence, most of those are the same).

I'll defer to the wiser ones and their knowledge of the ethics of outside content.

Please feel free to Reference Locker this thing if you feel it needs to pay a visit to there.

I am still missing you on this one. How is it stealing or at all unethical if we link to their FREE database. Isn't that the same as going to their site to use it?

Christ what kind of Kool-Aid did Alan give you?

Not everything is stealing...you can't steal free things.

There are two discussions going on here:
1) w/ Mili - how much interactivity we will have, where we can sort our database by recruiting staff member... making our own version of Rivals' idea.
2) w/ Grad - linking to the rival site everywhere, which I have no problem with

#1 was what worried me, but you guys seem to think its alright so I'll defer to your judgment.

If you know anything about my stance on this, which you did before, you would know I've always been wary of copying content and the ethics of doing so... just because it directs traffic to our site rather than the authors. But you've convinced me that it is legal, so I've backed down on those discussions.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Alan.

Glad to see we're communicating again (tho I'd feel better if it included a 'homo').

Also glad to see this in the reference locker, a much better place for the discussion.

I'll always communicate...I just think you received some bad information that is completely offbase.

Also, I wish you would learn to use PMs to air your policy concerns as we have already discussed in the past.

Fair enough... tho I'd really think the Alan thing belongs in a PM too... tho I really have no idea how it pertains to this topic.
The Alan thing was a joke which was poorly received...

As for PMs, I've asked you once before so this maybe this thread will let you see how it feels to be called out on the board.

Not much fun eh?
