I think it can be done Thump (limit bot access), but generally the search bots are good (at least not nefarious) for the site. They are gathering information (usually) that help BP to be "found" in some system's seach engine (Google, MSN, etc.).

They can however be a drain on system resources and/or on occasion can be used for nefarious reasons such as a DoS attack. I believe we have had one of each of these instances at BP.

Thanks for the description.

I looked them up and saw that they appeared to be used for good reasons as you described. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't slow the site down.

I was a guest reading for about 5 months before I finally made an account and posted... so I would say they are probably bad. As far as the bots go for search engines, they are generally good in my opinion, web spiders really help this site out, I mean when ever you search on a buckeye player bp comes in in the first few links.
