Bizarre Question of the Day.

Jagdaddy

Head Coach
Did Jim Tressel ever recruit former Colorado kicker/alleged rape victim/New Mexico Lobo kicker/author/publicity hound Katie Hnida for OSU (presumably after the 2000 season as a transfer prospect).

My instincts say no effin' way (Tressel signed some obscure kid named Mike Nugent as his kicker for the 2001 recruiting class) but I ask because I stumbled upon a Boulder Weekly interview (I was on a bus when the abandoned rag caught my eye) in which she responds to a reporter's question about being recruited by Tressel for OSU (she also claims to have been recruited by Tuberville and Tedford) by saying how great Tressel was and that she talked to him more on the phone than she talked to Barnett during her entire time at CU.

Actually, she doesn't say she was recruited but that she visited four programs...

BW: You were recruited by Ohio State. Do you have any thoughts on [coach] Jim Tressel and Ohio State, having been so close to having gone to school there?
KH: I spent more time with Jim Tressel on the phone than I did with Gary Barnett my entire season at CU. That really does speak volumes that Jim Tressel has the integrity and just plain decency and kindness to take the time out of his busy day to explain to me what's going on. I visited four schools after [leaving CU], and all the coaches?and these were big coaches, too, Jeff Tedford [Cal-Berkeley], Tommy Tuberville [Auburn], Jim Tressel?all of them really had a lot of class about them and treated me very, very well. The reception that I got was so entirely different than anything I ever got from Coach Barnett. They were great. I think it says a lot about why their programs have done so well.

Given the phrasing of the question as her being "recruited by Ohio State," the lack of clarification to the contrary by her, and the absence of any other obvious reason for her to visit those schools or for those coaches to talk to her, the clear implication seems to be that OSU recruited her to some degree, which I don't think is likely.

phrasing of the question could have been changed once it went to print. the ditzy chick might not have caught it. or perhaps she didn't feel it was worth the effort to correct the reporter?
