Experts, I travel alot and use a laptop. I have a Sony Vio, I love it but it is like toting around the yellow pages. Any ideas on a the thinnest small laptop at the best value out there?

I am OK with used, but I am guessing with the economy being the way it is and the downfall of Circuit City there might be some good deals out there on the new ones. I would like to keep the price at $1,000 or even a little under if possible.

I am looking for good speed/RAAM but really do not need a huge ammount of memory. Screen size is not a huge deal. Want good batery life. Need wireless.

The smaller, more portable and best price the better.
 
When you say screen size is not crucial, do you mean 14" is ok? Or are you ok with something pretty small like 13"?

Will you be doing low-end work like Microsoft Office, Browsing, Emails, etc? Or do you need something to handle video editing or other intensive multimedia tasks? All computers will handle DVD, music & picture playback.


Your hunt should begin at slickdeals.net in their forums, where you can find a wealth of deals, especially past ones to learn what kind of deals come around often and what you need to jump on.

I am going to have to go down to Micro Center and play around with a 13", but I think it would be fine. I expect to be running Office. Really I am looking for something that I can dump e-mails, work some excel, word, the basics.

There seems to be a price brake between the sub 3lb units and the 3-4 pounders. I think that some of the processors are getting much lower power so the battery life should be long even thought he battery is smaller.

I will check them out. Based on my limited research I have found that the Levono line are good, Vaio (pricey), Fujitsu. Just started hunting JW. Let me know if you run into anything.
