OL Coach/Run Game Coordinator Justin Frye (Official Thread)

NEW OHIO STATE OFFENSIVE LINE COACH/ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH FOR OFFENSE JUSTIN FRYE TO MAKE $800,000 IN 2022

Per the terms of his contract, which was obtained Tuesday by Eleven Warriors through a public records request, Frye – who was also given the title of associate head coach for offense – will be paid an $800,000 base salary in 2022 and will be eligible for “compensation increases as approved by The Ohio State University Board of Trustees for contract years beginning February 1, 2023.”

Frye also received a one-time lump sum payment of $51,839.

Frye’s two-year contract with Ohio State includes the standard incentives for an Ohio State assistant coach, including bonuses for winning the Big Ten East (8.5% of base salary), winning the Big Ten Championship Game (4.25%), making a New Year’s Six game (17%), making a non-CFP bowl game and winning at least nine games (4.25%), making a College Football Playoff semifinal (21.25%) and making the national championship game (25.5%).

By comparison, previous offensive line coach Greg Studrawa made $700,000 in 2021, which was also what Frye was paid as UCLA’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2021.

“He coaches you hard, and I think that’s very important as a player,” Rhyan said. “Especially as a young player going into UCLA and starting as a freshman. Sometimes you need to get told things you don’t want to hear, but other than that, he’s gonna coach you hard and he’s gonna get you to the point where you need to be in order to be successful and build teams to win games.”

Rhyan says Frye didn’t sugarcoat anything when coaching his players at UCLA, but at the same time, he knew how to alter his coaching style to connect with each of his individual players.

“He’s extremely honest, and he’s a well-spoken person and he is able to talk to you in a way that goes with your personality,” Rhyan said. “He has a great feel for each individual player he has in his O-line room, and with that, he’s able to have those hard conversations with you.”
